Louisville Pulls Away After Halftime, Defeating Miami WBB 77–68

The Miami Hurricanes battled No. 10/11 Louisville on Thursday afternoon but fell, 77–68, inside the Watsco Center.

Three Hurricanes scored in double figures, led by Amarachi Kimpson’s 18 points. Ra Shaya Kyle followed with 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds to lead Miami’s defensive effort. Kyle now has 11 double-doubles on the season to lead the ACC.

Miami holds a 10–6, 2–3 ACC record, while Louisville stands 15–3 and undefeated in ACC play at 5-0.

In the first period, Miami went on as big as an 8-0 run against the No. 10 Cardinals and held the lead for upwards of four minutes. The Hurricanes’ first 14 points were distributed among four players, led by Ahnay Adams with six. Adams also led on the defensive end with Kyle, each securing four of Miami’s 15 rebounds. Despite the strong start, Miami trailed 17–14 at the end of the first quarter.

Louisville extended its lead to five early in the second period (19–14) before Miami responded, tying the game at 20–20 with 7:40 remaining and again at 23–23 at the 6:49 mark. The Hurricanes briefly regained the lead at the free-throw line, with Kimpson converting 1-of-2 attempts. The contest remained close, featuring four lead changes over the final five minutes of the half. At the break, Miami held a 35–33 advantage while shooting 41 percent from the field.

At halftime, the Hurricanes out-rebounded Louisville 23–18 and forced nine turnovers, converting for 12 points. Miami scored 22 of its 35 first-half points inside the paint, with just six coming from beyond the arc.

Louisville opened the third quarter with a driving layup to tie the game for the fifth time (35-35). The Cardinals then went on a 13–3 run to build their first double-digit lead of the game. Louisville continued to extend the margin, pushing the lead to as many as 13 points before closing out the third quarter with a 60–47 advantage.

After the Cardinals secured the first bucket of the fourth period, Miami went on a 9-2 scoring run to get the margin to eight (64-56). Louisville quickly responded with back-to-back three pointers to post a 70-56 advantage. From there the Cardinals continued to run up the offense, closing out 77-68.

Miami will continue its three-game home stretch Jan. 11 against instate rivals, Florida State. The Sunday matinee will tipoff in Watsco Center at 2 p.m. and will be aired on ACCN.
