Miami fans are riding high right now, and honestly, how could you not be? Beating both Carolina teams back-to-back will get anyone buzzing. The Hurricanes are hot, the season is rolling, and people outside of Coral Gables are finally paying attention.
One of those people is national college hoops guy John Fanta, and he basically said what Miami fans have been yelling for weeks.
Fanta said first-year head coach Jai Lucas is already on his radar when it comes to Coach of the Year talk later this month.
“Coach Lucas is doing really good in his first year at Miami. He’s on my radar for the Naismith Coach of the Year. Still some time to go, but when we put those lists together, he’s one of my 15 names.”
Lucas has Miami sitting at 20–5, and it’s not like they’re beating nobodies. They took down top-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels, then followed it up with a tight road win at NC State Wolfpack.
NC State is a tough place to play, and they’re coached by Will Wade, who knows how to win in this conference. Didn’t matter. Miami still found a way.
That’s kind of been the story all year. This team don’t fold. They just keep coming and keep winning.
For a first-year head coach, Jai Lucas isn’t just doing “a good job.” He’s making real noise. Miami fans know it. And now John Fanta is saying it.
