Jai Lucas and the Miami Hurricanes finalized their roster yesterday with the addition of three-star point guard John Laboy, who has officially signed with the team. With this signing, the Hurricanes' roster is now complete. Jai Lucas felt great about the team during an interview with Jon Rothstein on the CBS Sports College Basketball channel.
"I feel great about my roster. The one thing I wanted and the one thing I'm most comfortable with as a coach is on the defensive side of the ball. That's what I've been able to coach. That's what I've been able to do, so I wanted to, especially, with my first team, have at least one team I felt that could really do that. I feel like we really targeted a lot of people that kinda fit that. I want to be tough. I wanna rebound. I wanna have size. I want to be able to win the game within the game, as I like to call it, the little details, the loose balls, the extra possession, getting fouled, things like that, and I think I have built a team that kinda will be able to exploit a lot of those. Now we have got to figure out, once I get everyone here on campus, offensively, how we will look, how we want to play, but I know from the defensive side of the ball, I feel really good about it and we have a good mix of youth and age and international, so we covered a lot of basis with this first class and also having some people who can grow with the program.
Said Lucas.
The excitement is building for the Hurricanes as they have acquired impressive talent from the transfer portal. This includes Tre Donaldson, Tru Washington, and, who is recognized as one of the top shot block Ernest Udeh Jr.ers from the Big 12, along with Malik Reneau.
Miami is making significant strides in its 2025 recruiting class. Recently, ESPN concluded the 2025 class, and the Hurricanes ranked 24th. They have successfully added four-star shooting guard Dante Allen, five-star small forward Shelton Henderson, and three-star guard John Laboy.
Jai Lucas has upgraded the coaching team by adding new members, including Andrew Moran, Russell Springmann, LJ Rose, Zack Zillner, Riley Welsh, Charlton Young, and Erik Pastrana.
