UM is back inside the Hard Rock Stadium tonight at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time to play against FCS opponent, the FAMU Rattlers.
The Rattlers are currently sitting at 1-1, after defeating D2 opponent Albany State and losing to South Carolina State this past weekend. They're looking to get back on track here against the Hurricanes.
Ahead of the game, we're taking a look at five underclassmen to monitor when the Hurricanes clash with the Rattlers:
Freshman | DB | J.J. Dunnigan
Freshman defensive back J.J. Dunnigan was probably one of the most talked-about underclassman this off-season, by impressing head coach Mario Cristobal and players during fall training camp.
He had his chance to shine against the Stanford Cardinal, logging one tackle in 33 snaps. With tonight's game expected to be a blow-out, we can maybe see him fly all over the field.
Freshman | DB | Camdin Portis
Camdin Portis is the son of former Miami Hurricanes running back Clinton Portis. However, Camdin has made it known that he wants to start his own journey at Miami, aiming to become the next legend to put on the Orange and Green jersey.
Coming out of high school, he was rated as a four-star prospect. 247Sports ranked him as the nation's No. 120 player in the 2026 recruiting class. He saw nine snaps against Stanford, recording one tackle. Porits is another player in the defensive back group to monitor tonight.
Freshman | QB | Dereon Coleman
Getting live reps for freshman quarterback Dereon Coleman is extremely important. Coming out of high school, he produced one of the fastest releases in the country. He was rated as a four-star prospect according to the 247Sports Recruiting Rankings.
During the 45-6 win over the Stanford Cardinal, we saw action from Luke Nickel but never got to see Dereon Coleman in action. So tonight, he will have a chance to show what he's got after a long summer of training.
Freshman | WR | Somourian Wingo
Wide receiver Somourian Wingo was also very highly praised during the Hurricanes' fall practices. Hurricanes wide receiver Malachi Toney was seen praising him during the offseason, stating that he is a dog on the field.
He recorded two receptions for 27 yards in the win over Stanford. According to Pro Football Focus, he was the highest-graded freshman during last Friday's contest.
He is a 6-foot-2, 195-pound receiver out of St. Augustine, Florida. During his senior season of high school, he recorded 827 receiving yards and 13 receiving touchdowns.
Sophomore | LB | Kellen Wiley Jr.
Sophomore linebacker Kellan Wiley Jr. made the most of his playing time against Stanford. Playing in 15 snaps he recorded four total tackles. He was everywhere on the field against the Cardinal and is expected to carve out a solid role this season.
Last season, Wiley saw action in nine games recording a total of six tackles and one pass deflection. He was rated as a four-star prospect and the nation's No. 30 linebacker in the 2025 recruiting class.
