The Miami women’s basketball team was challenged at home, falling 74-58 to No. 20 Duke on Thursday night.
The Canes were led by Ra Shaya Kyle with 21 points followed by Gal Raviv with 16. Kyle also led on the defensive end bringing in nine rebounds with Ahnay Adams not far behind collecting seven. As a unit, Miami shot 41.1 percent from the field and distributed 13 assists.
Miami is now 12–9 overall and 4–6 in ACC play, while Duke sits at 15–6 overall with a 10–0 win streak in conference action.
The Canes tallied the first basket of the game off a layup from Kyle. Duke immediately retaliated and posted the next seven points to gain the lead at 7-2. Kimpson then hit a three-point jumper to get Miami back within one possession prior to the Devils pulling away for the remainder of the quarter. After 10 minutes Duke led 21-9 over Miami.
Raviv opened the scoring column in period two with a step back jumper inside the arch. From there Miami fought to close the scoring margin going back and forth with Duke. The Canes offensive effort was led by Kyle, recording eight of Miami’s 14 second quarter points. At the conclusion of the first half the Devils held the advantage at 39-23.
Miami initiated an offensive run in the first two minutes of the third period, outscoring Duke 13-5 (8:14 to 4:31). The run was led by Kyle with six points and Raviv with four. The Canes maintained the increased pressure on both ends of the floor for the remainder of the period, ultimately holding the edge on the boards, 13-7 and outscoring the Duke Devils 27-16. The score stood at 55-50 going into the final p10 minutes with Duke holding its smallest lead of the game since the first quarter.
After the Canes put all the pieces together in the third quarter, Duke responded in the final 10 minutes, outscoring Miami 19-8. The Devils also forced four turnovers on UM and were held to zero, helping them ultimately pull away to close out inside Watsco Center 74-58.
The Hurricanes will return to Watsco Center on Sunday afternoon to take on Syracuse. This will mark Miami’s thirteenth home contest of the 2025-26 season. Sunday’s matinee is slated for a 2 p.m. ET tipoff with full game coverage on ACCN.
