FINAL: Miami Takes Down Florida State in Tallahassee, 83-73

Behind a pair of 20-point performances from Malik Reneau and Tre Donaldson, the University of Miami men’s basketball team defeated Florida State, 83-73, Tuesday night inside the Donald L. Tucker Center.

The Hurricanes (22-6, 11-4 ACC) led for the majority of the first half to take a 38-32 advantage into the break. Miami held a seven-point lead midway through the half behind a three from Timo Malovec and a Reneau dunk before the Seminoles (14-14, 7-8 ACC) cut the lead back down to two.

Leading 28-27 with just over minutes remaining, Tru Washington scored seven of Miami’s last 10 points, including a last-second 3-pointer.

In the second half, Florida State cut the advantage to four before the Hurricanes extended the lead to 10 behind a Shelton Henderson and-one and a Donaldson 3-pointer. The Seminoles responded with a 13-3 run over the next five minutes to tie the game.

Miami responded with a 9-2 run to take a 66-59 advantage, forcing the Seminoles to call timeout. Donaldson pushed the lead up to 11, the largest of the game, as he hit two jumpers and a three.

With the Canes leading 75-71, Donaldson hit his first free throw and Reneau corralled his second attempt and laid it in to give Miami a 78-71 advantage. Down the stretch, the Hurricanes converted on five of their six attempts to seal the win.

Reneau finished with a game-high 23 points to go along with 12 rebounds, seven of which were offensive. In his return to hometown, Donaldson added 21 points, 15 coming in the second half, and six assists. Washington finished with 11 and Henderson added 10. Ernest Udeh Jr. finished with seven points and seven rebounds.

Miami outrebounded Florida State, 42-23, and dominated the paint, 42-30. For the game, the Hurricanes shot 52.5% from the floor and were 58.6% in the second half.

Miami returns to the Watsco Center for its penultimate home game of the regular season as the Hurricanes host Boston College on Saturday at 2 p.m. The game can be seen on ACC Network and heard locally on 560 AM WQAM.
