On how day one of practice went: Went great today. Good to be back out there. I feel like the energy was up, which is expected on day one, but a lot more work to put in.
On Daylyn Upshaw: He stepped into more of like a leadership role. He's one of the guys who was staying after practice and catching extra balls. So he's, one of the examples in the leader room. And I think that just speaks to who he is as a person and a player. So I'm proud of that dude, but like I said, he's got a long way to go, and so does the rest of the offense.
On the mentality heading into the season: 1-0 in everything that we do. And, it starts with meetings, lifts, and just be present, within everything that we're doing. Not focusing on anything external, and really just focusing on the internal.
On his comfortability with the team: Just spending time with the guys. I've gotten to know them a lot more. They've been very receptive to me as a leader, and I'm very thankful for that.
On his easy transition to Miami: I think the leaders of this team just emphasize family and the culture here. And that was apparent when I first got here, so it definitely did ease the transition for me.
On being a leader to the younger guys: It's kind of just who I am. Like, I think I connect with people by just getting to know them and talking to them. I'm not the rip-your-head-off and scream at you. I'm gonna just talk you through, what you need to do to be better. And so that's kind of just my approach as a leader, but I think it's the most helpful with younger cats, especially in the receiver room, like, just to let them know, play your game, and just to know that, you're playing a game that you've played your whole life and to have fun. So that's kinda my approach when it comes to leadership.
On building the culture with the veterans: Yeah, it's just about holding everybody accountable. Whether you're a freshman or a sixth-year senior, you've got to be accountable. You've got to, you need to be where you have to be each and every day. And so, I think the leaders of this team have done a great job upholding that.
On his relationship with Coach Shannon Dawson: It's been great. I've been saying, I feel like I've said it like a thousand times, that he works the offense around the quarterback, and he's fine with changing things in order to make me feel comfortable out there. And so, I definitely appreciate that as a quarterback.
The chemistry among the quarterbacks: The chemistry is A1 in that room. I love all those guys. It's a lot of fun to be a part of that room. But I think a lot of growth has happened on the field as well, as far as taking care of the football. too many picks today. So that's good to see. I think that we've also gotten better at just putting the ball in play to our playmakers.
On Malachi Toney: He just deserves it all. He's one of the hardest working dudes on this team. I've told this to people before, you get a big-time receiver, usually they expect the ball, and then when they don't get the ball. I think he only had like a few targets today, and usually they'll start complaining. He won't say a word, he'll just keep running his routes, continue to get open. And I think that's what's the most special about him, how humble he is.
