New Hurricanes quarterback Darian Mensah believes Miami is the place to be if your goal is becoming a first-round NFL quarterback.
Mensah spoke with On3 about his decision to choose the Hurricanes over several other programs, and his reasoning was clear.
“I want to make the NFL. I want to be a first-round draft pick. And all signs point toward Miami,” Mensah told On3.
Mensah has put up big numbers wherever he’s played. As Tulane’s starter in 2024, he completed nearly 66% of his passes for 2,723 yards and 22 touchdowns with just six interceptions, also adding over 130 rushing yards and a score on the ground.
He followed that up with a breakout season at Duke in 2025, throwing for 3,973 yards and 34 touchdowns with six interceptions, leading the Blue Devils to a 9-5 record and an ACC Championship. Over his two-year career at Tulane and Duke, Mensah accounted for more than roughly 6,700, total passing yards and 56 touchdown passes.
Over the last two years, Miami’s offensive staff deserves serious credit for how they’ve handled the quarterback position through the transfer portal. They brought in Cam Ward and helped turn him into the No. 1 overall pick, then Carson Beck, who led Miami to a national championship.
Now it’s Darian Mensah’s turn. And the expectation is higher than ever. Keep the run going and lead Miami back to the top — with an eye on a College Football Playoff run and helping him to his own first-round NFL Draft stock.
