****ie Vitale, one of the biggest figures in the college basketball industry, told Twitter that the new head coach of the Miami Hurricanes, Jai Lucas, is going to do a fantastic job during his time with the Hurricanes.

Here is what Vitale had to say after the commitment from Shelton Henderson to Miami:

"Jai Lucas will do a fantastic job with CanesHoops - has great communication skills- really connects with players."

The excitement is growing for the Hurricanes as they have built some impressive talent from the transfer portal. This includes Tre Donaldson, a Sweet 16 point guard, and Tru Washington, a standout defensive player from the MWC. Additionally, they have brought in Ernest Udeh Jr., one of the top shot blockers from the Big 12, along with Malik Reneau.

Miami is making significant progress in the 2025 recruiting class, currently ranked in the top 20. They have added four-star shooting guard Dante Allen and five-star small forward Shelton Henderson. Lucas is hosting top-10 point guard Acaden Lewis for a visit to Miami this weekend that starts tomorrow.

Jai Lucas has also upgraded the coaching team by bringing in new faces like Andrew Moran, LJ Rose, Zack Zillner, Riley Welsh, Charlton Young, and Erik Pastrana.

Lucas has turned this program around from a 7-24 team last season to a potentially top-4 team in the ACC conference next year.

For those of us in our 50’s, Vitale was a god send in the 80’s when most college basketball announcers were just plain dull. We loved his lists;
PTP, All Windex team, and we endured his love of Bobby Knight and Coach K because we appreciated that he literally changed college basketball broadcasts forever.

BUT, Vitale loves college hoops so much that he is a blind homer. He loves every coach and all the players and has zero objectivity. But that was his actual charm at one point. So love him or be annoyed by him, Vitale is who he has always been.

Agreed for the most part. He went full on Notre Dame Homer when his daughters went there

Was that the Digger Phelps era? Another favorite of Vitale’s.
And of course he loved all Italian-American coaches.
