CIS Staff Predictions: Miami vs. Stanford

Miami Football will open the 2026 college football season tomorrow night, as the Hurricanes travel out west to take on the Stanford Cardinal. The opening kickoff is set for 9:00 p.m. Eastern Time on ESPN. The Canes are a 23.5-point favorite over the Cardinal, who are 1-0 on the season.

Both teams have plenty of new faces on both sides of the ball. Stanford brought in Davis Warren from Michigan and surrounded him with solid offensive production. Stanford's defense returns seven starters from this past season, though the team gave up a total of 29.2 points per game, which ranked dead last in the ACC. The team retained junior cornerback Brandon Nicholson, who led the team with two interceptions and 24 tackles. The Cardinal also returned veteran linebacker Matt Rose, who tallied nine tackles in the win over Hawaii.

Mario Cristobal secured a commitment from one of the best quarterbacks in the country, Darian Mensah. The Hurricanes defense is stacked led by veteran production Ahmad Moten, Mohamed Toure, Damon Wilson, Marquise Lightfoot, and Omar Thornton, among others.

When I first saw T-Breeze's prediction I thought it said 13-45 in favor of Stanford

While the O CAN be more explosive, I don't think we'll come out guns-a-blazing. I think we'll run first, and pick our shots downfield. We'll be methodical, and really efficient.

On D I think we'll be so much tougher than Hawaii, they will be simply out of their league. I also think our D sets our O up with a few turnovers.

Because of this, I think we'll score close to 50. Not because our O is slinging it all over, but because we'll run down their throats, eat clock, and tee off on D.

49-10. Their 10 wither coming early, or late. Second and third quarters will be utter destruction.

What's the story behind this? Did he pick against Miami a lot last year because I keep seeing similar posts pop up over the months.

Either against us or a very close score in some games, he caught **** for it and it became another reason to rib him.

First game, friday night and west coast...the scheduler really wants to put us through adversity. Good thing for the transfer portal and new Qbs come with experience. The leaders will need to step it up!

49-13. I’ve watched their game against Hawaii twice. I think they are too slow to keep up with our offensive weapons or handle our offensive line, even though it’s their first game. MARIO will use multiple players in their first games which will allow Stanford to score 13 or more.
