Miami continues to make a strong impression on one of the nation’s top defensive backs in the 2028 recruiting class.

Four-star safety CJ Craig-James recently trimmed his recruitment down to 12 schools, and the Hurricanes are still firmly in the mix alongside Auburn, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oregon, LSU, Vanderbilt, Cal, and Clemson.

The 6-foot-3, 185-pound standout from Parker High School in Birmingham, Alabama has quickly become one of the most sought-after defensive prospects in the country. With his size and physicality, it’s easy to see why nearly every major program has made him a priority.

The news gets even better for Miami. Craig-James told CanesInSight that he plans to visit Coral Gables again in the near future, “he will be in attendance for the Miami Hurricanes game against the Florida State Seminoles.” Giving the Hurricanes another opportunity to strengthen their spot in one of the nation’s most competitive recruitments.

Miami has been building a relationship with Craig-James for months. Earlier this offseason, he spoke highly of the Hurricanes and the way the coaching staff has recruited him. Since then, that connection has only continued to grow, and Miami has stayed near the top of his recruitment despite heavy competition from powerhouse programs across the country.

Landing a player of Craig-James’ caliber won’t be easy, but getting him back on campus is another important step. Visits often play a major role in recruitments this early, and Miami will have a chance to show him why Coral Gables could be the place to continue his football career.

The Hurricanes have made recruiting elite defensive backs a priority in recent cycles, and Craig-James fits exactly what Miami looks for at the position. At 6-foot-3 with plenty of room to add weight, he has the frame and athleticism to develop into a versatile playmaker capable of impacting the game in multiple ways. If the Hurricanes do end up with CJ, they will be getting a player that can do about anything on the field. This should be a fun recruitment to follow, get your popcorn ready.
