CanesInSight caught up with one of the best defensive players in the class of 2028 Jaelyn Easterling-Flores. He was recently on the Hurricanes campus for Miami's Legends Camp.
Here is everything he had to say about the event and his recruitment:
Ryan: I'm Ryan with CanesInSight. I'm here with elite defensive back Jalen Easterling-Flores. How was the camp today, Jalen?
Jaelyn Easterling-Flores: Everything was good at the camp today. Good coaching, good drills, good everything.
Ryan: And then, for people who don't know you, how would you describe your play style and your versatility as a defensive back and in the secondary?
Jaelyn Easterling-Flores: I mean, I would really, like, compare myself to, like, a Nick Imemori type player, like, all around the board, do everything, help the team out in any part, really do everything, versatility.
Ryan: So, do you prefer maybe getting down in the box, like Nick Imemori or playing up top?
Jaelyn Easterling-Flores: I prefer playing up top mostly and guarding people, but I don't mind getting in the box either and blitzing.
Ryan: And what does Miami having elite safety, such as Ed Reed, Sean Taylor, as of recent, you know, Kam Kitchens, maybe even Keionte Scott, you'd consider a safety hybrid. What does that do for your recruitment?
Jaelyn Easterling-Flores: It really, like, makes me open my eyes to the state, like, the development they had in the players, the respect they had that they consistently really produced.
Ryan: And then, just, we're at the Legends camp, right? Having legends on the sideline when you're going off or getting a pick, like Bryce Fitzgerald in the playoff game, what does that do for you? Like, what kind of support system is that?
Jaelyn Easterling-Flores: It really gives me, like, the inspiration to, like, go out there and try harder and put my all into it, but really, that's my goal every time I step on the field, to go out there.
Ryan: And then, what's your relationship like with the defensive back coaches, you know, Terry Jefferson and all those guys?
Jaelyn Easterling-Flores: My relationship is good with all of them, you know. Just really got down here to get it better and stuff like that. That's about it.
Ryan: And where does Miami lie in your recruitment so far?
Jaelyn Easterling-Flores: Miami's definitely up there in my recruitment. One of my top schools.
Ryan: And you talk about the culture and the mindset. What do you think, what kind of mindset do you think you have to have in order to play here?
Jaelyn Easterling-Flores: Well, really, like, a calm mindset. You really just be like, you want it. That's what I would say.
