3 Miami players to watch against Ohio State

After beating the Texas A&M Aggies in a gritty 10–3 win, Miami is now set to take on the No. 2 team in the country, the Ohio State Buckeyes.

As we wait for the gates to open and parking to fill up on game day, let’s take a look at three Hurricanes players to watch in today’s showdown against Ohio State.

Let’s get into it.

Offense: Markel Bell (OL)

Honestly, you could list the entire offensive line here.

This game will be won in the trenches, and it starts with Markel Bell and the rest of Miami’s front. The Hurricanes boast one of the best offensive lines in the nation — if not the best — but Ohio State counters with one of the most dominant defensive lines in college football.

Miami has to keep Ohio State out of the backfield. Limiting pressure on Carson Beck is critical if the Hurricanes want any success on offense tonight. If Bell and the O-line hold up, Miami gives itself a real chance to control the game.

Special Teams: Carter Davis (K)

Carter Davis will be one to watch on special teams after a tough outing against Texas A&M. The sophomore kicker missed three field goals in that 10–3 win, leaving points on the field that could’ve mattered against a team like Ohio State.

There’s no sugarcoating it — opportunities will be limited tonight. When Miami gets into scoring range, they have to come away with points. Davis doesn’t need to be perfect, but he needs to be reliable. One kick could swing momentum in a game this tight.

Offense: Carson Beck (QB)

Carson Beck has to be on point tonight. As we’ve said, points are going to be limited, so every trip into scoring range matters. When Miami crosses midfield, they have to capitalize.

Just as important is decision-making. In a tight game like this, Beck can’t afford costly mistakes — something we’ve seen pop up at times recently. At the same time, Miami can’t play scared. The Hurricanes have to take shots downfield against Ohio State’s secondary when they’re there.

Of course, none of that matters if the Buckeyes’ defensive line lives in the backfield. The offensive line has to be dialed in to give Beck time.

Beck doesn’t have to be perfect.

How our interior OL handles Kayden Mcdonald osu's star DT will be key also.

CJ Daniels, Lofton & the rest of the receivers not named Toney will have to win 1 on 1 matchups. If they do, we roll. Ohio State is going to load the box & bracket Mali all game, forcing others to beat them. I think they're up to the task as long as they are given the opportunity. Less wr screens, more 10-15 yard routes.
