2025 QB Luke Nickel, Alpharetta, GA

QB is the least accurately evaluated position in football.
The scouts are using physical traits to rank a position that's 75% intangibles.
I'm not worried WTF they say about Nickel. He was the best QB I coached against last season, and we played 4 nationally ranked opponents and multiple D1 QB recruits. (that includes Dia Bell)

And he's at an elite program who's developing their players. He's gonna be mentally polished when he gets here.

You don't need to be 6'4" with a rocket arm to be successful at QB, especially not in college.
You need a guy who's a leader, is gonna make THE RIGHT throws, be efficient and not turn the ball over.

This young man could be a great qb for us. Plays in a very good program and excels with coaching and instincts.

Good news is coaches (and many of us fans) appear to have nailed this evaluation well before the ratings sites. Bad news is he’s going to be more expensive now lol

The Ol Ball Coach had his assessment of HS QB's. "Only 25% of highly rated HS QB's will be able to make the adjustment to D1 speed. Speed of the game is the killer".

The longer I've been tracking this, the more I think mental processing and reaction time are the key differentiators between great HS and great College QBs. And of course the ability to take a hit, shake it off and not be afraid to stand tall in the pocket on subsequent snaps.

I think Nickel exhibits really good mental skills. We'll see how he reacts to getting his clock cleaned once or twice but that's not easily projected.

He’s getting the full 5* treatment.

Like Lightfoot last year, Miami was all over that eval and aggressive in all aspects when he was just a 3* recruit.
Was lightfoot ever a 3*? I remember him being a 4* from the start, but I also thought that Ziyare Addison had booked an OV, so now you've got me questioning my memory.
