Yesterday on Locked on Canes, Bruce Warner suggested Kelly's injury combined with his weight gain has slowed him down a bit. That's a totally legit reason to sit down with the young man and reassess things. But if it's true he's FULLY recovered, Kelly is more than athletic and capable enough to be an impact P4 player. IIRC, he came in at 16, which means he's only 18 right now, younger than some guys in high school.

Bain is a unicorn. You cannot have 22 Bains, much less 85 like we all want. Mesidor, Alton and Wayne aren't Bains, either. Do we also push them into the portal?
If he indeed got pushed out..then Mario is crazy. Your right, he is still young and Jason Taylor loves him..But if he left on his own, then based on the hype..I dont think anyone will beg him to stay.

And for any poster who wants to rebuttal that 2022 DE class being overrated..Going into the 3rd year..not one of them is on anyone Day 1 mock draft pick list. And Stewart and Jones Jr were 5* kids and Kelly was a borderline 5*. Its been disappointing for all 3...thus far. Anything can happen.

There is one glaringly obvious situation, which people with information (not me) have been more than hinting at for a while now - he ****ed up off the field and got kicked off the team. What he did, how bad it was... the details probably won't ever be made explicit, and they don't really matter.

Why you can't seem to grasp that without it being spelled out for you is another question for another thread.

**** really wanted this kid to thrive here. So much potential coming out of HS

Wouldn’t be surprised if it’s an off field thing. Kid is young and has dealt with multiple injuries without much success on the field. Hard to stay focused and deal with Mario’s tough program when your not having success.

grove read between the lines this isnt a talent transfer . Hewould be in the rotation...it may be listed as that so he gets an easy landing

Although Oates's main role in the duo is being the guitarist, he also co-wrote many of the top 10 songs that they recorded, including: "Sara Smile" (referring to Hall's then-girlfriend, Sara Allen), "She's Gone", and "Out of Touch", as well as "You Make My Dreams", "I Can't Go for That (No Can Do)", "Maneater", and "Adult Education". He also sang lead vocals on several more singles in the Hot 100, such as "How Does It Feel to Be Back", "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" (a remake of the 1965 song performed by the Righteous Brothers), and "Possession Obsession".
I saw them at the Hard Rock Casino a couple of years ago. Great concert!!!

This simply is not true.

First, the football team was not making a lot of money in the late 90s and 2000s. That's a fact. The very first time we had ANY stable Athletics income was when we joined the ACC. When we were in the Big East, it was feast or famine, due to the payout structure. Oh, and the University FUNDED the Athletic Department during those lean probationary times.

Second, Donna Shalala absolutely funded athletics. She pushed for the IPF. She got the arena built (FINALLY!). She pushed for Miami to join the ACC (and was sued for it). HOWEVER, she absolutely believed in hiring "up-and-comers" in a lot of roles, and YES, those people do not command higher salaries. But the facilities and budgets increased under Donna Shalala, they did NOT decrease. If you want to argue for increasing those budgets MORE, I would simply ask where the money would have come from. Because Shalala was absolutely NOT taking money OUT OF Athletics. If anything, UM occasionally covered Athletic deficits out of the UM general operating budget.

Third, the acquisition of UHealth (it was acquired, not built) came from UM operating funds as well.

As for the COVID money, I'm not going to argue, COVID revenue certainly helped. But Joe Echevarria was already turning things around on the operational side, even before COVID.
The UMHealth acquisition was huge. She doesn't get enough credit for that. That acquisition is has paid off bigtime!!!

here are some hints. it involves Kelly, a few other human beings, including perhaps one or more football players, the thing occurred in 2024 and in south florida.

PM me for confidential details.
Yea I get it. We've had other guys bounced from the team for that before.
