It looks like he is tainted (like everyone else who is involved in some shape or form with the F$U administration) even if he resigned. Additionally, the O$Uck hire of Michael Drake, and Drake's subsequent actions against O$Uck's band, have made that recommendation seem to be off the mark.

Bottom Line Up Front: Academic the BOT will love, Forget him bringing in the bacon ($), try the whole hog($$$$), needs excellence in ATHLETICS management experience to move on and up.
1. As a former Provost at Harvard, guy could print money by calling in his donors from there and his gigs at The Leland Stanford Junior College. We NEED $$$$ to be competitive in all areas, to include (in a large part) ATHLETICS.
2. He is a physician and understands health policy (BOT wish) at least as good as everyone else who has screwed it up (See Gruber). Maybe he can make the former Cedars profitable after overpaying for it and stop the medical yo yo of black one year, red the next.
3. Taught at Stanford GSB, so he knows business, one of Miami's strengths...Can light a fire under Anderson's *** or replace him by bringing Kahn back (again $$$ needed)
4. He has bounced between Harvard and Stanford throgh most of his professional life. He has to prove he can work outside the bubble of these two schools. Realistically, he could eventually be a candidate for Stanford's presidency (Harvard's presidency is way too politically connected;it's Elizabeth Warren's to have once she removes herself as a road block to Planet Hillary), but he has to prove he can run a university somewhat similar to Stanford first. One thing Stanford has is a large and fairly successful ATHLETICS program. Garber could come into Miami, put Flake James in charge of practice bubble acquisition and get a real AD in the mold of Sam J. He wouldn't be as public as Shalala, but this could have some real benefits; all the money, none of the political negatives. Heck, Harvard just WON the Ivy League championship.
Only red flag is he was also a VA doctor for many years. Ordinarily a great thing, but he would have to be vetted to make sure there are no vets who died under his care due to neglect. The Lehigh University BOT is ordering Maalox by the case since their recent pick from UVA, Simon, may be involved in a gang rape cover-up. Vetting is a must.
