LWS Portal Recruiting Update



Why is Miami so aggressive in the portal this year?
  • Small window w/Ward
  • Potentially lure another elite Portal QB next year

Damien Martinez
  • Miami way out front
  • A LOT would have to go wrong for Miami to not land Martinez

Sam Brown
  • Ties to Ward & Dawson
  • Working out w/Ward prior to the visit.
  • Things trending the right way
  • Miami feels good about this recruitment prior to the weekend


WR Portal Recruiting
  • Brown not the only option
  • They are only recruiting WRs who could challenge to start

Xavier Lozowicki

  • Impressive (given he's playing at Maine)
  • Ties with former IMG players (Francis & Bryant)

Not happening

Derrick Harmon

  • Geo's sources say he's "exactly what Miami needs"
  • Gamechanger
  • Lots of competition (beyond the names that are public)
  • This isn't a done deal
  • May visit elsewhere after Miami

  • This isn't a done deal
  • May visit elsewhere after Miami
  • Miami needs to close

Tyler Baron

  • Miami realized they'd be able to do a lot better than Height in the portal so they cooled on him
  • Very productive in $EC
  • Miami involved along w/Ole Miss
  • $EC/NCAA transfer rules conflict and which one takes precedence is unclear

CJ West

  • Miami still in contact, still in the mix, but not at the top

Jaylin Alderman

  • Nicholson has shown he likes to have LBs in the portal that he has experience
  • Miami feels good about this recruitment prior to the weekend
  • 4 LBs last year playing a lot, they want Pruitt to get bigger
  • Goal: raise competition floor
  • Popo getting big increase in playing time
  • Need a vet w/experience to work with young LB core

Dyoni Hill

  • Taken a few visits already
  • Miami feels good about this recruitment prior to the weekend

Miami still wants a portal safety and a nickle this cycle

Johnson Jr

  • Still a candidate

My thought on the Michigan State DT’s is that if we visit elsewhere after Miami then we aren’t getting them.

Not just about the $. It’s gonna be competitive/pretty even all around with the top players (LSU, Horns Down, etc.). It’s can we convince them that this is the place to be over some schools that have accomplished more in recent times.

Money helps, but Mario and co. need to SELL.

LSU’s 247 admins are saying they haven’t been competitive in the NIL Space.

Texas has $$$, but they have gotten 1 DT already (Norton from Az) and closing in on Williams from TCU.

Honestly don’t know what Colorado is offering because it sounds like only Deion’s kids and Travis Hunter were getting the real $$$. That is why the RB Edwards bounced.

If I’m Mario, outside of the obvious NIL offer and living a pretty good life in Miami as a college student with money..…you have to sell these DL on playing with Bain too and creating the best DL in the ACC and one of the best in the country. Which will get everyone to the top of the NFL draft boards. FSU DL last season got Verse in the 1st and Fiske in the early 2nd. They got results to sell now. We have to match and counter that. Because ultimately players like Harmon and Barrow Jr and Baron want to be developed to the NFL as day 1-2 picks.
