When has a player ever been recruited and commited out of hs or portal that it has been said the staff doesn't really like lol. Liking a guy isn't saying they expect him to be the starter. They really liked him... as the 4th dt with experience. Or maybe they really liked him for the NIL cost... don't think anyone had him being above Taylor, JHH, or Deen.

Going through the gore thread I saw something interesting... yes I know LT was lazy and interviewed horribly but @Zbrod95 called it perfectly. LT was done a disservice by being moved to NT last season due to Manny's poor DT recruiting. His people failed him by not suggesting to him to come back. The florida 5* corner from Palmetto came back

Probably had no shot but money has a weird way of opening doors. I think once the staff realized they had a real QB and not the make believe version, the level of urgency changed.
