Fastest Cane RBs of all time?

While not as fast as Shipman at RB, my recollection is that Alex Johnson was one of our fastest RB's?
Yea he could scoot, but it was mostly short area burst from what I remember. He got a FA look with the dolphins and they liked him and then he just quit and said he was done with football.

Copeland was a freak of nature at 6' 3" and 200 pounds.

That's when Horace Copeland's ungainly jump was measured at 26 feet, 6 1/2 inches, fifth best in the nation, making him an All-American. Not bad for a University of Miami football player who dabbles in track. Copeland is fast, too. He runs the 40-yard dash in 4.31 seconds, and won the Big East Conference 100 meters in 10.42.

More on the speedsters on the 1992 team. Kevin Williams runs a 4.28, Horace Copeland runs a 4.31. Williams, who set the Miami record in the 40 in the spring, also runs track and forms three-fourths of the Hurricanes' sprint-relay team from last season with free safety Darryl Williams (4.34) and cornerback Ryan McNeil (4.39). More pieces from this article. Their linebackers are fast. Darrin Smith runs a 4.42, Jesse Armstead covers the 40 in 4.47, and Micheal Barrow does it in 4.64.

Got to rep froggy. Another clip from back in the day for Orlando Sent. Not a subscriber. Not sure what year but during Erickson's time.
Coach Dennis Erickson said Tuesday that running back Al Shipman has had the best spring of any Hurricane.

But when Miami’s season opens in September against Georgia Southern, Shipman likely will remain stuck behind James Stewart, Larry Jones and Danyell Ferguson.

Still, Erickson said he will find playing time for Shipman. The Palm Beach Lakes alumnus is the fastest Hurricane (4.25 in the 40-yard dash)

Not sure if all of these are stop watch timed or laser 40 times. The 100 meters finals at the big east are laser timed so we know those are more accurate times.
Regardless those UM teams were blazing all over the field. Great teams and miss those days.

How fast was Jason Geathers??? Didn't see his name being brought up so I thought I would throw it out there??

Have no idea how reliable this is, but it claims he was 9.4 100 yard dash guy when he joined the team in '87. That would be elite long speed if true.

(All that said I threw his name in as a lot of our younger fans aren't familiar with the less famous players from the mid/late '80s who were contributors during the glory years.)

Here’s one for us very old folks here ready?

Anyone remember Johnny Williams RB ?

Try that one on 🙌.

Maybe he should have played defense. Cali kid. The fastest NFL player ever, Jim Hines was named Oops because he could not catch anything. Just a track guy running a 9.95 world record at the time. Played for the Dolphins for a couple of years and some other team from what I could remember. Football is a very hard sport. Bob Hayes was a track star and football player hall of Famer.

He never showed it on the field, but Andrew Johnson from Penn Hills HS in Pittsburgh had legit elite track speed. That entire ‘04 RB class was a major disappointment, but on paper was arguably the best in the country. Johnson was a 10.5-6 guy verified, I believe he was the WPIAL champ in the 100m and 60 indoor. He had stupid straight-line speed, but that was about it.
