I don’t really want any former players in the AD role. I do tho like Zo as a football gm or something because I don’t trust this admin to hire a coach who knows was elite looks like.

You hire an AD to make those calls and you hold said person responsible if they aren't making sound decisions. No AD worth a **** wants to work in an environment where you have someone standing between you and the most important hire you'd ever make (HC of Football Program). The GM of Football thing is a concept that is used by dysfunctional departments. Have an administrator that handles day to day stuff, that reports to the AD but the AD should be very active in regards to the football program, seeing that it is the revenue center of the department.
