Article: This is a mope-free zone here, Im expecting a big year...

yeah, I said it, like Michael Keaton's character in 'Gung Ho'( a totally underrated 80's movie, if you ask me) when he threw down the gauntlet at his fellow co-workers and screamed:"15,000 CARS!!!"( or whatever the number was, I haven't seen the movie in awhile) but I'll say it now: 11 wins!!!

Yeah, the Bo Derek plus one.

IMO, and perhaps this is just hopeless optimism, but I think this could be the best team UM has fielded since 2005. I was thinking 2003, but that year's defense was a monster. But this is now when Al Golden is on the clock for me. Yeah, the first two years were mulligans to my slanted eyes. Some may not agree, but I don't give a ****. Those teams were not going anywhere, I didn't have any real expectations of those squads. Now, he's had some time to lay the type of foundation he wants. I like what I'm hearing.

However, this year, I see a potentially great offense, which will be predicated on Stephen Morris being as improved in the fall as it seemed he was in the summer months and of course, the health of one Randy 'Duke' Johnson. But finally, I see a UM quality Oline( one with at least a few NFLers upfront), TE's that can play, and perhaps the best group of WR's in the land.

Defensively, I expect at least nominal improvement. Let's face it, they couldn't be any worse. Curtis Porter is pivotal. I know he's not exactly Jim Marshall in terms of durability, but he can be a difference maker inside and has the ability to make those around him better. This wont be a dominant unit, but if the offense lives up to expectations, they wont have to be. If these upperclassmen who transferred in and some youngins like AQM can play specified roles effectively, this unit will be able to hide some flaws.

Kicking game worries me but hopefully we aren't seeing a reprisal of the Andy Crosland era.

To me, the Florida game is the whole key to the season. Win that, and all of a sudden I see a team that could brim with confidence and do big things. I say it's the most important game, thus far, of the Golden Era. To me, this is when he's officially on the clock.

So yeah, I'm positive because quite frankly, I'm a believer in whats going on and I'm sick of being negative for the past decade or so( where quite frankly, it was warranted). My message is this, don't be afraid to be a fan, it's OK to have hope( at least this season). I'm all in on this team and Golden and staff. If you can't at least admit there have been some positive things going on within this program, well, I don't even know what to say.

Double-digit victories in 2013 and this will only be the beginning. I have a high regard for Golden, and with that, high expectations for this great program.

As Ive said before in paraphrasing Howard Schnellenberger,"Miami is on a collision course with greatness with Golden, the only variable is time and NCAA sanctions."

Get on the bandwagon - no mopes allowed

Great movie reference... That was at the time when the Japanese were competing for #1 with America in the auto industry.

Easy schedule. Senior QB. Both important qualities if you want to make a "outta the woodwerks" run.

Why not us?

Must beat Florida

Agreed. I expect the offense to misfire here and there, so that leads to special teams and defense. Special teams need to be special all year, and the defense needs to be able to travel. Even if we continue using the methodical approach defensively, our D needs to create a lot of turnovers while keeping people out of the endzone.

I agree w/ this completely, and have been preaching for the last couple years that Golden walked into the worst possible situation: poor overall talent (particularly experienced talent), lack of depth, and horrendous strength & conditioning, coupled with ridiculously irrational expectations from our fanbase. Plus, the NCAA debacle that is still hanging over the program. Notwithstanding the herculean task, he has righted the ship and the team looks completely different.

I remain very concerned about the defensive line, but even there, he's been proactive and unconventional in terms of brining in off-the-radar guys like Gilbert and Renfro who will contribute immediately.

And the Pat O'Donnel free agency pick-up was absolutely huge.

Like you, I anticipate results this year. Hopefully, the UF game will be this year's version of Dorsey throwing to Shockey to beat FSU, and catapult us back to the top of CFB.

out of curiousity, k9:

how much of the Canes have you been able to see since the spring?

No more than anyone else to be honest( and no more or less than any other years in this internet age), I don't claim to have any inside sources or anything like that. Just a guy that covers boxing for a living that happens to love the Canes.

Optimism is warranted! In analyzing the gators. Lost many key defenders and experience on the DL. Breaking in new DB's early against a highly regarded offense and passing attack. Offensively, their qb has very limited skills. ol is modest, running game too and their passing game is not a strength by any stretch of the imagination. They lost their receiver in Reed and I can't for the life of me name any others. I'll admit I'm a gaytor hatar but I'm not one who can omit facts. These are the reasons I am optimistic that we will win this game! So optimistic I have issued to all my football brethren CANES over gaytors for $100- all comers! Guess what? Nobody taking the bait. Ummmm....wonder why?

I really like 'Why Not Us' as a rallying cry.

Why the **** not us god dammit?

Because "why not us?" Is whining.
You don't earn victory by begging for it.
Family rule. No begging for life, love or property.
Just how I was raised.

The guys on our team need to start feeling like they're entitled to enjoy success and see the top of the mountain.

**** right. Every year we sit back and watch a Kansas St., a Louisville, a Rutgers......bust on the scene and make noise.

I ask you:

Why the **** not US?

And that ain't mother****ing whining. That's sacking up, looking your teammates in the eyes and saying let's ******* do this, because we are capable goddammit.

I offered that c note bet on this board a couple weeks ago and didn't get one gator to bite.
No points straight up.
Lot of faith they have in their 10th ranked top SEC team.

You need a plan to get to the mountain top.
A goal without a plan is just a dream.
Thankfully, it seems we have everything in place.
I'm not bashful. I think we have a great chance to play the ACCCG at 12-0.
