Felton Blackwell 2015 NT from Cedar Creek HS in New Jersey as a possible UM Prospect for the 2015 class presents an intriguing recruit that with either a redshirt year or early admission in order to go through a winter S&C program, would bring quality depth to the Nose Tackle rotation. Blackwell plays the NT position with leverage and explosive hands but tends to have to much body lean when he takes off which can be exploited when playing better competition.

Blackwell also needs to improve his overall strength in order to be effective at the FBS level, in he high school he is generally bigger than his current competition so he can easily over power them but in college he will need two seasons in a S&C program before he can simply exert his will on opposing linemen. He is also a track athlete with a personal best 46ft Shot Put; which demonstrates his overall strength, but for his size he should be throwing in the high 50's which he should reach or surpass as a senior.

Blackwell does carry a little bad body weight but has the frame to reshape his body and easily carry 330lbs of good body weight which would be needed to take the pounding as a NT in college. He is a high motor player that takes good pursuit angles to give backside chase and is deceptively fast enough to run down ball carriers which is rare for a player his side, an he will only get faster with strength training.

Blackwell is a AP student so he most likely could be an early enrollee and would have no problem with UM admissions an he wants to student environmental science again another plus for Miami. Blackwell currently is an under radar NT, but with a camp season gearing up I expect to see this 3*s stock sky rocket, since there are questions about his competition level, proving himself in a camp setting will dispel some of that.

If UM starts to take notice of the young man because Blackwell does check most of the boxes UM wants in a NT and could be this year's Courtel Jenkins surprise NJ steal for Miami. Blackwell hopefully will make it down to Miami for a Al Golden camp an earn a hurricane offer on the spot with an excellent camp performance, considering UM will most likely take 3 high school NT's for 2015.

Who? This kid probably hasn't even heard of a UM CAMP.

Paranos, I know you were on Jenkins early. But is this kid even interested in us? Rivals doesn't have us listed in his targets. What makes you think he'll want to camp?

I was saying he should want to camp at Miami. An in my book every DT should want a Miami offer an have in interest in the school that has produced some of the most heralded players in the sports history. But joking aside, there isn't a player in the country that wouldn't be interested in checking out Miami, now the interest level from there is debatable however UM offers the academics he would want being an AP student that plans on majoring in Environmental Science. Not to mention when you have no offers and an offer from Miami would make him have interest.

Paranos what are your thoughts on this guy Javier Edwards

He currently has no offers but his size and speed is intriguing

He has size and weight room strength but plays VERY HIGH and as a result relies to much on just being bigger than everyone else, this leads him to getting blown of the ball at times by the low man double teams or the single blocker that can out leverage him. Surprisingly I am going to say he needs to be coached up , which is rarely the case for a Texas kid. He most likely needs a red shirt year once he gets to college, but for now he needs to hit as many college camps as he can to get the technical coaching he needs to improve his hand usage and learn to bend his hips more because he seems stiff. An when bending to split a double team having powerful hips that can bend an then open explosively to drive through the opening is critical

Here is a full game highlight from when he played College station, I chose this game to illustrate how he is blown off the ball half the time, the other half he is making tackles and in one tackle he strips the ball and runs 37yds for a TD.

I like him as a Plan C currently but if he can improve his technique over the summer and possibly even make a UM camp or two an show he is coachable then I say give him a non-commitable offer that will become committable with a good first off the season and the possibility of him early enrolling for spring.

He is biggest one in white on defense

I didn't realize that Javier Edwards High school Aldine Davis has only had football for 3 years and have only played JV games, with their 1st year of varisty action coming in 2014. I can see now why many schools have held off on offering Edwards based on lack of quality competition and lack of technical / developmental coaching (due to the programs overall youth) making him a raw prospect for the 2015 class. He plays with a high a pad level an rely's on being able to overpower opponents rather than use techinique which won't work in college, I was hoping he would have corrected this over the summer but it appears he has not based on this 2014 Game film (he is #99 in white).

But you can't teach size and natural strength like his (430lbs bench & 570lbs squat as a HS Jr.) which he combines with a quiet anger. Apparently Houston's press predicts his team has a good chance to make the playoff's in their first year of varsity play, which says a lot about his team because the metro Houston area historically has some of the best talent in Texas.

But thus far his team is off to a rocky start for the 2014 season, but his team is playing tough especially on defense within the front line.
