Omier enters name in NBA draft(commits to Baylor)

Sorry to link a SI article but I’m too lazy to write it myself. There are permissible ways to get virtually unlimited NIL to foreign players… Miami knew that, Omier (/his agent and handler) know that, and Baylor knows it too...

Omier enters name in NBA draft(commits to Baylor)

Apparently journalism is writing an article speculating about someone else’s tweet with absolutely no legitimate sources. https://www.sbnation.com/college-basketball/2024/5/6/24150262/baylor-bears-norchad-omier-transfer-portal-star-nil-payment Now this stuff is tough because most players and...

Omier enters name in NBA draft(commits to Baylor)

He’s got a decent midrange game but he’s really not a big threat out of the paint unless he’s wide open. And he can’t carry the frontcourt alone because he’s just not big enough. Which is all why he’s really not the right guy to be the highest paid player on the team… hence he took his talents...

Omier enters name in NBA draft(commits to Baylor)

Omier is not a true big, and he’s not the guy you build a roster around. Which is why his NIL demand was not met here. But he’s a great person and an ELITE rebounder who I hope achieves his dreams.

Omier enters name in NBA draft(commits to Baylor)

Which is also why we weren’t gonna back the brinks truck up. He’s a great college player… but he’s not great enough to blow a NIL budget on. And no, we’re not poor… but we’re also not tossing out 7 figure NIL deals.

Omier enters name in NBA draft(commits to Baylor)

Goodman also said Baylor and Alabama are getting more talent for less NIL, comparable to UConn, and he is… wrong. Omier wanted 7 figures and would have never entered the portal if we paid. Baylor paid 7 figures.

Omier enters name in NBA draft(commits to Baylor)

He wanted NIL he wasn’t going to get at Miami. This was 100% financially driven. If Miami would have paid what Baylor is paying he’d still be here. That was known before he entered the portal.

Omier enters name in NBA draft(commits to Baylor)

It wasn’t the money. L. O. L. Unfortunate way to part with a great player.

Omier enters name in NBA draft(commits to Baylor)

True, but Omier had a higher TOV% last year than every big I looked up (Bacot, ****inson, Edwards, Filipowski, Ballo, Ware). He’s also 6’5.5”. He’s a terrific player and someone who helped change the program for the better… but that’s not the relevant question. The question is whether you give...

Omier enters name in NBA draft(commits to Baylor)

Norchad is a fantastic person and player… but he is not a guy who can carry a team. He was very turnover prone when trying to get a bucket on his own.

Omier enters name in NBA draft(commits to Baylor)

Is Omier worth 1mm? No doubt he’s an amazing player and has been an amazing Hurricane, but we can’t spend so much NIL on one really good player that we can’t afford to fill out the team with elite players. When there’s only a limited amount of NIL to go around, you can’t overpay one player…...

Omier enters name in NBA draft(commits to Baylor)

If he’s fully healthy I could easily see a team try to stash him in the G league just based upon his athleticism and shooting (39% from three this year).

Omier enters name in NBA draft(commits to Baylor)

I think his desire is to declare and become a pro. Portaling is always possible as long as he has eligibility, but I don’t think that’s the current plan.
