The modern 4-2-5 is just a 4-3 but it replaces a WLB with a nickel player. The nickel, star, striker, whatever they call it is usually a safety type that can cover receivers and play the run like an athletic linebacker. The coverages are different than what we used a lot in the old days though...

Would you consider Charleston Rambo one of the best receivers in UM history? Is he top 10? Even top twenty? How about Mike Harley? Is he the greatest UM receiver ever? I mean he caught more passes than anyone ever at UM. Neither of those guys was some kind of special talent. They were solid...

I think I left every home game besides UNC early.

You're vastly overrating the value of two undrafted wide receivers and an undrafted running back. Do you think those guys can't be easily replaced? those guys put up numbers because they played in a system that allowed them to. There's a reason why one of them is an XFL backup and the other...

TVD getting hurt obviously affects the entire season. I just can't look at the schedule and see 5 teams we should lose to given good health. We have three freebie OOC games against Miami (OH) BCC and Temple. We have three freebie conference games against the three worst ACC teams GT, UVA and...

That's exactly why I'm not going to be happy with 7-5. If 2022 was a failure because the staff sucked, 2023 should be a success with a new staff. I'm not expecting 12-0 against the SEC. I think 8 or 9 wins against our borderline g5 schedule is a very reasonable expectation.

You're correct. Lashlee was the only reason Manny won 15 games the prior two seasons. They likely would have been a garbage team if they had kept Dan Enos because Manny's defense sucked. Butttttt....hiring coaches and coordinators is a huge part of the head coach's job. Especially if the head...

Was the 2022 roster worse than the 2021 roster? Did the transfers and signees Mario brought in not make the team better? The only players who contributed heavily in 2021 that weren't on the roster in 2022 were Rambo, Harley and Cam Harris. Three undrafted players. The question wasn't "would...

Manny won with a lesser roster. Is Mario really that much worse a coach than garbage *** Manny Diaz?

Same. 8 wins is my floor. But it’s gotta be more than just W/L record. We can’t keep getting blown out. If we lose a tough fought game against Clemson. That’s OK. We can’t just keep losing by 30 to teams like Pitt.

Yet Manny had a winning record with this supposedly terrible team. Why are the standards for Mario lower? He’s already flipped 2/3 of the roster so he can’t play the “it’s not my roster” card. We play maybe two top 25 teams. There’s no excuse for losing to bad ACC teams this year. I expect this...

8-4 wasn’t good enough when we had Manny Diaz, a cheap budget and supposedly less talented team. Why should that be good enough now? Why are your standards lower for Mario than they were for Manny?

Somehow we’re just hoping to upset teams that we expected Manny Diaz to beat. Barring ridiculous injuries, the entire staff should fire themselves if they don’t win 8 games.

Exactly. Just because we need depth doesn’t mean that guys are going to want to transfer here. It’s not like D Line where you rotate a ton of guys. Reserve offensive linemen don’t play unless there’s an injury or a blowout.

Lashlee was able to squeeze plenty of big plays out of Rambo and he ran a very pedestrian 4.57 40 at the combine. A good coach can scheme up ways to make plays even if he doesn't have elite talent.

The staff feels that nothing in the portal is better than what we currently have at the top of the depth chart. Now, they might still bring in someone for depth purposes but that brings back my original point. You're asking a guy to transfer here to be a backup. Most portal guys are looking for...

Yes. I meant that the coaches aren't looking to bring in anyone to challenge for a starting spot. They have 7 or 8 guys (depending on Nelson's health) that they feel are capable of starting and none of those guys are getting passed by a transfer. If they were to bring in another O lineman, it...

The staff really likes the 1st team guys according to posters much more connected than me. They’re not looking for linemen to replace anyone in line for a starting spot. I’m just going off what I’ve seen reported here.

Gonna be real hard to convince someone to transfer here to be a backup. Most guys are in the portal for playing time. Same goes for running back.
