I never played QB but I can imagine it would disrupt timing quite a bit to have late snaps that you also have to worry will be on target or not.

That sir, is indeed the question. UM also had a gazillion yards against UNC and scored only 24 pts. This is an offense that averaged around 35 ppg for consecutive years under Lashlee. Cristobal wants games to slow to a crawl and bleed clock. It's just his way.

I have no proof of this but I suspect that he's running the offense exactly like Mario wants right now. Run and use clock. If any passes, will be short high percentage throws with little chance of INTs. Too dangerous to throw into end zone.
