Gulliver safety and Canes commitment Cedrick Wright has been one of the most vocal members of Miami’s 2016 recruiting class.

His former high school coach, Jorge Baez, who is now on the Miami recruiting staff, has entrusted Wright with aiding in recruiting efforts.

“I literally just got off the phone with Baez an hour ago. I always tell kids to join the legacy and then they just ask me some questions. There’s a couple kids committed elsewhere that I’m trying to flip,” said Wright.

For Wright, this is all a part of the plan that he says has been in place for a few years now.

“Me and JoJo and Baez and Burns all had this vision when Baez left. So many South Florida kids were leaving because they listen to the critics too much. We know how good we were and that if we came then others would come with us.”

Wright has become close with a couple of Miami recruits that he was not previously tight with.

“Wayne Steed is a great kid (2017). He’s super chill, quiet, and a hard worker. Deion Jackson is another one who is very underrated with an unorthodox style, but he plays with swagger.”

He is also confident that this class will stick together, unlike the last few years.

“I think all the ones who decommitted were the ones who weren’t going to be here. I feel like everyone else is solid.”

At Gulliver, the team is as loaded as it has been in years. Wright believes the maturing they have done will pay dividends.

“Last couple seasons I could say we had a lot of talent, but I feel like this year we have the chemistry that we have been building since we were freshmen.”

The versatile defensive back also thinks that the crown is for the taking in 5A this year.

“I feel like it’s wide open this year because Booker T. is down and we are ready to come in there and make it happen.”

**Wright said that Paul Williams has discussed using him as a roaming free safety, as well as up in the box.

**Wright predicts 8 wins for the Canes this season.

They're even getting our recruits to have lower standards

Man if this class sticks together after an 8-5 season. God bless them all. Goes to show maybe they are ryde or die canes. (shrugs)

All that said, Wright is a very underrated commit. This is the kind of kid Butch would have liked too.

Hopefully Paul won't be here to implement this amazing plan.

That's actually a good plan for Wright's skill set.. But Paul Williams can't even sit at the big boy table to discuss whether or not to offer a recruit... what makes anyone think he has the power to determine what role a recruit is going to play in our defense.

The debate in that video was between a LB coach DC and OC.. about a safety. Paul Williams has no power on this staff.

Lol..do yall not see even if we win 8 its an improvement over last year and Golden will use that as optimism to keep his job another year...

The kid is confident that he and the S16 group will be the ones to help turn this thing around, with or without Golden. The entitled recruits that only want to go to 10 or 11 win teams are the ones I don't want. Let them go.

Those entitled recruits are the ones that have been destroying us...routinely...for a decade dudebro.

Most of these kids view themselves as difference makers and aren't terribly concerned with 8 wins before they set foot on campus. Heck, many of them committed after a 6 win season. Why would 8 scare them off? Now if we go out and win 4......

I just hope we/Baez can hold onto these kids. Hope it's not a case like the U School/FAU deal with kids commiting there for their old coach, then going all Scarlett when another option knocks on the door. Gulliver kids are legit. Fingers crossed.
