Speaking of Joyner, what are his current measurables? Maybe it's just me, but I looked at him last week and he looked like a a DE. I was pleasantly surprised.
He's listed at 6'2 235lbs, but he looks around 240-245lbs range.

Is the decision to redshirt solely with the coaches or is it a player decision? Because if one of the DT’s can “redshirt” to be as dominant as Willis is after taking his year-in-residency/sabbatical/year off then I’m all for it. If Miami didn’t need them so bad Bethel and Ford and even Miller would definitely be candidates. Thank you, Kul.

No way. Too long of a season and he's a big time talent. Need him in the big games to spell Homer/Dallas some.
Agreed. We need the depth at RB.

I'm shocked Wiggins isn't redshirting. I guess coming in early helped but he looked the most raw of the WRs we signed in that class.
Dont be, that man keeps earning playing time because one, he's a willing blocker, and is starting to become one of our best blocking widereceivers, which if you havent noticed during games, with many of our rushing touchdowns in the redzone, wiggins is in the game, he's kind of like an allen hurns type, in that he's underrated.

I was at UM in the days of freshman football. The NCAA did away with freshman football so that they could be allowed to play on (in those days) the varsity. The red shirt stuff is a crock of isht. They wanted freshmen to play, so let them ALL play and change the rule allowing them to jump to the NFL three years out from their HS class graduation. It should be 4 years, or degree, whichever comes first.

Pope physically isn't ready to complete. He's not strong enough and needs to learn to run college routes and blocking techniques. He needs to redshirt but he'll be a beast when all said and done.

Due to the NCAA's new rule, a player can play in up to 4 games and still receive a redshirt designation.

8 of Miami’s 23 true freshman have played in 5 games and have burned their redshirt. They are: Hightower, Wiggins, Jordan, Mallory, Scaife, Ivey, Blades, and Baxa.

3 others have played in 4 games and seem likely to burn their redshirt at some point. They are: Lingard, Silvera, and Hall.

That means Miami still has decisions to make on 12 guys. They are: Williams, Davis, George, Pope, Ezzard, Campbell, Reed, Rousseau, Joyner, Miller, Frierson, and Bethel.

Here's a chart to keep track of how many games a player has participated in so far in 2018 (data is from UM's own official participation charts).

Freshman Redshirt Chart

Jarren Williams – 1 (SSU)

Lorenzo Lingard – 4 (LSU, SSU, TOL, FIU)

Patrick Joyner – 2 (SSU, FIU)

DT

The rule does not only apply to true freshmen, though. Here are the non-freshman UM players that have yet to redshirt in their career and have played in 4 or less games this season, making them technically still eligible to redshirt this year.
