Off-Topic For the Beer Lovers.....

If you are ever in the neighborhood again there are some dive bars with some really cool history right by MCB: The Bronx, the Old Miami (Its an old Vietnam vet bar. The Miami is an acronym for M.issing I.n A.ction - and I'm not sure what the last two letter are for), and Honest Johns. Short drive away the Corktown neighborhood, which is where Old Tiger Stadium was, has some cool places like Nemo's and Mercury Bar. I know Detroit isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I love the place.
People hate on Detroit if they’ve never been there, but if you know what you’re doing it’s actually a lot of fun. It’s a little more high end but another great brewery is griffin claw. There beer is too level too

3 Sons is rapidly becoming the best brewer in Broward. At least for my taste. They make a ton of incredible sours and dessert-y stouts. They were recently on Diners Drive-ins and Dives.

Invasive Species Brewing in Fort Lauderdale is really good too. I’m a fan of the creative stuff. I don’t care about generic IPAs, Heffs, or Porters. I like when brewers take chances and try different stuff
Agreed with the statement about 3 Sons. For what I've of local breweries they are in my opinion the best anywhere south of Cigar City in Tampa.

Invasive Species is next on my list to visit. I actually had one of their collabs with 3 Sons and I was impressed.

Love Heist and Resident Culture.
I like Heist too. I moved away before Resident Culture opened. I hear they have good IPA's. I spent a lot of time in the downstairs portion of Salud in NoDa.Love that place. Jason is a good guy. (Owner) Went to Wooden Robot quite a bit. Beer is solid there. I really liked the staff there. I did not launch any projectiles at any staff members at Wooden Robot.

I like some sours. I dont like the kind the will melt the enamel off your teeth though lol
I’ve had a bunch of sours with lactose added recently and it really takes the acidic edge off them. The really tart ones or the ones that taste like vinegar are too much for me personally.

Love both Wooden Robot and Salud. We started getting all of these in Atlanta. We went to a couple of them before the ACCCG a couple of years back. I remember when Hop Drop N Roll from NoDa was the baddest IPA on the block a few years back.

Have you been to Odd Breed up in Pompano Beach? Sour only brewery in the traditional way (no kettle sours). Some fantastic stuff coming out of there.

went to Detroit a couple summer again for a Tigers game. Had a great time. Cool bars, strip clubs, casino, Greek town etc... one of the better trips I have taken.

me and a group of friends go to random baseball stadiums whenever we get a chance. Harder now with all them having kids and stuff.

I went once a while back and was impressed. They have some really creative stuff. Are they still open? I know COVID put a hurting on some of these guys.

You know what they say.... I'll try anything twice

All kidding aside I've never had a cherry stout, definitely intriguing

Favorite category of beer is and probably always will be New England IPAs or "Hazy" IPAs. Best ones out there are the Cloud Candy from Mighty Squirrel Brewing (Waltham, MA) and The Cat's Meow from Exhibit A (Framingham, MA)

I am honestly not sure. Hope so. I live in Atlanta and we get their stuff. I had a taste and then saw where they were from and couldn't believe it. I grew up in Coral Springs/Parkland, and that general area was a craft beer desert for just about my entire life. To see a barrel souring brewery from there was shocking to say the least.

I have been wanting to go there. I think I have only had there beers at a couple beer festivals up here.

Hop Drop is good. I had a wicked hangover the last time I had that. It's been years since I've had it. The day I was hung over, I had gone over to my parents who were also in Charlotte. I was in the bathroom throwing up, and my mom came in with a broom and started jabbing me in the ribs with it just to **** with me. Thanks mom.

Nah, my issue was solely that mid-December weather. Five days, zero sunlight... snowed about 20% of the time, and even when it wasn't snowing it was overcast so bad it looked like twilight most of the day. But midtown and corktown were pretty cool and walkable (when it wasn't snowing). Apart from Motor City Brewing, I went to a ****tail bar called Sugar House that served some pretty elite level drinks. I could see a trip there being more fun in April/May.

Some of my favorite South Florida breweries (in no order)

- 3 Sons - great dessert-y style stouts, awesome IPA's, and they brew some good sours and other stuff too. They also have a really good on-site kitchen with wood fired pizza
- Orchestrated Minds - newer and tiny brewery near downtown Fort Laud. Outstanding stouts and IPA's. They're only open Thursday to Saturday but check them out
- Invasive Species
- J Wakefield (they're the ones that brewed the turnover chain beer)
- Tripping Animals brews great sours but recently I've grown a little tired of all their super thick extra fruity sours. Still worth a try
- Odd Breed Wild Ales. Definitely not for everyone (you won't find typical styles like pilsners, IPA's, stouts etc here) but they brew wild ales about as well as you possibly can. I wasn't into this style a few years ago but they've helped me appreciate and enjoy it. They're up in Pompano Beach

Just double checked. They're still open. It's a bit of a ride for me from Hollywood to Pompano especially since it's in an area where there's really nothing else around. I'll make the trip soon though. They do a good job.

I've lived in Broward all 41 years of my life besides four in Orlando for school. Until about 10 years ago, there was not much of a craft beer scene. There was a World of Beer in Coral Springs (I think?) but they're generally terrible. I used to go to this little dive in Hollywood called PRL that was owned by a Polish dude who always had crazy *** Euro imports and that was about as close as you could get to anything that wasn't Bud/Miller/Coors. Laser Wolf in Fort Lauderdale might have been the first real craft beer spot. Funky Buddha opening their big brewery in Oakland Park in 2013 really set the whole thing off. Now, there's so many new places, I rarely go to the same place more than a couple times a year.

It has grown exponentially. Going a ways back, there was a brewpub in Coral Springs called Big Bear. Beers were fine, They had a good porter or stout IIRC. They were open back when I was in high school (graduated in 2001). Then at some point Funky Buddha had that original brewery in a storefront in Boca. Used to go there quite a bit when home from college. They put on some good shows there too. It is good to see that the brew scene is growing all across the region now, and I like that a lot of them use fruits and flavors unique to South Florida.

There's another new one in Pompano Beach called Dangerous Minds that I've been meaning to check out. There's also a new place in Lauderhill that just opened called Yeasty Brews.

For as much as the Broward beer scene has expanded, I wish there were some places on the west side of the metro area. Everything beer wise seems to be 441 and east.

What’s everyone’s favorite breweries in their current home town? I’m in Atlanta and would probably go Variant just north of the city for IPAs and stouts and Orpheus for sours and stouts.

Three Taverns, Monday Night and Halfway Crooks would round out my top five.
Cascade in Portland OR for barrel-aged sours. pFriem in Hood River OR for Belgian-style and stouts.
