Jonathan Patke Bio - LA Tech Official Athletic Site

Jonathan Patke joined the LA Tech Family in 2014 after serving as a graduate assistant at the University of Incarnate Word where he coached the linebackers, special teams and assisted with strength and conditioning efforts.

UIW is Patke's first experience with the coaching side of football and he began his association with Incarnate Word in the summer of 2011 working on the offensive side of the ball. Starting in 2012, Patke was on the defensive side of the ball devoting most of his time to the defensive line. With Brian Gamble taking over the Cardinal defense the following season, Patke made the transition to working with linebackers, which is fitting for a former collegiate linebacker.

Prior to joining UIW, Patke had been employed in the oil and gas industry while living in Houston, his hometown.

Patke was a four-year player and a three-year starter at Stephen F. Austin State University. He worked his way from a first-year walk on to the starting job at linebacker while at SFA. After coming off an injury-riddled freshman season, he earned a starting job heading into 2006. He was struck with a season-ending injury in the first quarter of the season-opener at Tulsa, putting an early end to a second consecutive season.

In 2007, Patke completed a full season as a Lumberjack, without being hampered by injury, ending his season with 40 tackles. Against North Dakota State, the eventual #1 team in the country, he had a career high 11 tackles.

Graduating from Stephen F. Austin in 2008, Patke received a Bachelor of business administration with a minor in finance. He attended Cypress Creek High School in Houston where he was a standout for the Cougars on the football field.

It appears CMR is allowing the DC to run his show, as this is another guy who has followed from MSU. Other than Coach Kool, the defensive assistants have very minimal experience. We'll see how they pan out, as just about anything is better than the previous defensive staff.
