All the transfer talk for Miami is cute until you have 2 true freshmen from Miami make impact complementary plays back-to-back against your biggest rival.

We get the best locally that want to be Canes, recruit nationally & in the portal for the rest.

We’ve seemed to have been hitting on all of our evals, high school & portal, which brings me to the question, Are we elite at evals, have an elite process, or just getting lucky?

I think Mario is doing well in all phases in terms of acquiring personnel and can sell it to future recruits and portal players.

Recruiting studs -- Best players will play, even true freshmen, as evidenced by Bain, Cici, Toney, Fitzgerald, Oj Frederique, etc.

Transfer Portal Evals + Successful integration -- nuff said. We might be the best in the country in terms of our hit rate.

Development for later bloomers -- X Resterepo, Samson, Ahmad Moten, Elijah Arroyo, Markel Bell

I do think development needs to be improved further if we want to sustain our success. Because in this instant gratification transfer portal era, we need to be able to sell the idea to players that sometimes becoming good takes time, and that's okay. Development gets people to stick around and "trust the process".

The portal has been a difference maker for us, just look at all the players getting snaps and making plays for us.

Malachi Toney giving me those Ed Reed/Michael Irvin vibes in the sense of becoming one of the eternal faces of the program for years and years to come. I say this in part based on his love for the U and fire that he showed post-game around the UM section.

The first 2023 class no doubt had its fair share of misses and criticism was warranted. But each class, both hs & portal the evals and hit rate keep improving. You have to give props to both on field & off field staff for that. To accomplish that its not only identifying physicality but guys who also have the right mental makeup, intangibles which was something sorely lacking from past coaches like Diaz & Golden.
