BREAKING: Deejay Dallas commits to UGA
July 18, 2015 | Filed in: AJC Sports, Big Story, Georgia Bulldogs, SEC

Deejay Dallas was the first commitment at Saturday’s Dawg Night, which is UGA’s biggest recruiting event of the summer.

The 4-star athlete from Brunswick’s Glynn Academy High School is UGA’s second commitment for 2017, along with quarterback Kyle Hockman of McEachern. Dallas is rated as the state’s No. 31 overall prospect for next year.

“I think those guys at Georgia have done a great job recruiting him,” Glynn Academy coach Rocky Hildalgo told the AJC. “He really enjoys this staff. They have worked hard on selling him on the University of Georgia, and I think it’s a great decision for him. I think he’s going to be a good player for them. He’s a great kid. It’s a good pickup for the Bulldogs.”

Where will Dallas play at UGA? He is being recruited as a defensive back for the Bulldogs. But that could easily change due to his versatility.

“People ask me all the time: Is he an offensive player or defensive player?” Hildalgo said. “He’s a really talented kid – as talented as I’ve ever coached. He is spectacular with a football in his hands. The flip side is that’s he’s physical enough to play safety, and he has got the length and the hips to play corner.

“I think right now they (UGA) are recruiting him as a defensive back. But he has two years of high school left. A lot may be decided (with where he plays at UGA) on what they pick up with the rest of that recruiting class. He’s a tremendous all-around player. He may even play quarterback for us. He can really help up Georgia in a lot of ways. He’s special.”

Dallas nearly committed to UGA a couple of months ago, according to his coach.

“He and I talked about it today,” Hildalgo said. “He called me this morning and said he wanted to do it (commit to Georgia). I told him ‘Let’s go ahead and do it.’ He had wanted to commit a few months ago. I told him let’s just take a step back and evaluate everything … it was the right time for him to do it today.”

Dallas has a half-dozen offers, including Florida, Auburn, South Carolina and Missouri.

Officially committed to UGA

Carol City LB De'Andre Wilder lists Canes atop his list

Carol City junior outside linebacker De'Andre Wilder will be one of the most highly sought-after recruits in the class of 2017.

The talented pass rusher, who was ranked as the Miami Herald's No. 3 junior prospect in Dade heading into the season, already possesses an impressive offer sheet of several top programs nationally.

Wilder (6-3, 211 pounds) says UM, Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee are the schools that currently top his list.

"But No. 1 is UM," Wilder added.

Why is Wilder so high on the hometown Hurricanes?

"The coaches. I get along with the coaches," Wilder says.

Wilder visited all of the above in the summer and will work on more visits after his football season is over.

The Chiefs came off an impressive 8-7 win against Miami Central. Wilder made a tremendous impact on the collective effort of holding the Rockets offense out of the end zone. He was able to record a sack, combined with Jerrod Clearsaint for another tackle for loss and had several other tackles and quarterback hurries.

Wilder said his fake inside then pass rush outside was working well to get around blockers in one-on-one situations.

Miami (Fla.) Carol City 2017 wide receiver Kevaughn Dingle has one early offer from the Miami Hurricanes.

“I was just blessed to have it,” Dingle said of the tender. “At a young age like me, a sophomore going into my junior year, I’m blessed to have it.

“Kevin Beard gave me an offer. I just went back to the ‘U’ on Thursday. Me and the head coach talked personally, he said he would like to have me there. That was a blessing too. That was my first time ever talking to a college head coach. I was shy a little bit, but that’s an opportunity for me at a young age.”

The in-state Florida Gators have also reached out to Dingle’s high school coach, former Gator Aubrey Hill.

“They called coach Hill and said they are looking at me, but they haven’t really given me an offer yet,” Dingle explained.

An offer from the Gators could end Dingle’s recruitment he says.

“That’s my dream school,” the 6-foot-1, 188-pound prospect said. “If they do offer, most likely, I will commit. Treon Harris, I grew up with him, and I had a chemistry with him. I would like to go in and join that chemistry at Florida.”

247Sports currently ranks Dingle a three-star prospect with an 87 grade.

Since we only signed 18 players with 5 EEs that can count towards 2015, we can potentially sign up to 37 players in 2017 if there is room on the roster. However, the number we sign next season will depend primarily on the 85 roster cap for 2017.

Our team will have a total of 80 scholarship players when the SWAG16 class joins the team:

SR 11 (9 potential starters)
JR 20 (13 potential starters)
SO 22 (8 potential starters)
RFR 9
FR 18

There are only 11 SR left on the roster. So we will have room for a minimum of 16 in the class. As you can see the classes get smaller as they progress due to injuries, transfers etc. We will most likely lose a few more between now and the start of the season plus a few more at the end of the season to the NFL and graduate transfers. Based on Richt's track record with our existing coaching staff and commits when he got here, I have no doubt he will cut loose the players that he thinks does not fit in or will not contribute here. It happens with every new coaching staff. I expect us to have room for around 30 players by the end of this year.

Here is how I project the SQUAD17 class to look like:

Need: 30
Offense: 14
QB: 1
RB: 3 (Burns, Thompson)
WR: 4 (Gamble)
TE: 1
OL: 5 (Donaldson)

Defense: 16
DT: 3 (Ford)
DE: 2
LB: 4 (Kearney, Dunning, Steed)
CB: 4 (Roberts)
S: 2 (Ross)
P: 1

your numbers make sense to me HW.

I'm thinking 27-30

with big emphasis on both Lines, WR, CB.

should have double digit linemen in this class

CJ Henderson from Columbus has committed to Miami #Canes

CIDaoXpUcAAcV3-.jpg

WR: Christopher Henderson - 2/12/16 (hudl | 247 | Commits | Commits)

Cornerback Christopher Henderson (Miami/Columbus) committed to Miami, as first-reported by 247Sports.com.

"It felt like home," Henderson said. "They have great people there. (Hurricanes cornerbacks) coach Mike Rumph is a great coach and he did the same thing we are going to do already."

Henderson, an explosive athlete, will play on the island for the Canes.

"They are getting a shutdown cornerback," Henderson said.

Henderson unofficially visited Miami this afternoon and told the staff he wanted in.

"They were all very excited," Henderson said. "I committed as a cornerback and they were very surprised to hear from me. They all came into the office so that was pretty cool. They said they're excited to have me and I'll have a chance to play my freshman year. We even talked about me wearing number five just like I do now for Columbus."

Henderson chose the Hurricanes over 16 other offers including Alabama and USC. He discussed why he felt like the time was right to commit to UM.

"I felt comfortable with the coaches and this seemed like home," Henderson said. "I had been thinking about Miami ever since last summer. I wanted to know how much I might get recruited so I decided to hold off at the time. I got a lot of other offers but I didn't need to consider them. It's time to bring the old 'U' back."

Henderson, who runs a 4.4-second 40-yard dash, is one of the top recruits in south Florida in the 2017 class.

Look for his stock to explode in the coming weeks and months.

Henderson is the 10th verbal commit in the 2017 class for Miami. Cornerback is a big position of need for UM in the 2017 class. Henderson joins Nick Roberts as the cornerbacks committed in 2017.
