Baseball series is bigger than Duke game this weekend

Baseball is one of our title sports. We need this series this weekend to propel our baseball team back into the elite of college baseball. This basketball season is a one hit wonder, and the difference between a #1 and #2 seed is negligible anyway. A loss at Duke is not nearly as devastating to the athletic program as a series loss to UF would be. Next year's basketball team will win 18 games, while next year's baseball team could compete for a title. This isn't even close.

Just no. We could get swept by UiF and it wouldn't mean a thing as we could still get them again in the tournament, and likely will be arranged for a super regional that way. The basketball game could potentially give us the #1 ranking overall if we win. Sorry, you lose.

The #1 ranking overall means nothing. If we're #1 and Gonzaga is a #2, we still have to beat Gonzaga as though they were #1 and we were #2. It's not like the higher seed gets to bat last or something. Winning the UF series, however, will push us into position to host in the post-season. Hosting in baseball is exponentially more important than the difference between #1 and #2 in basketball.

Getting the #1 ranking would just be kick ***. Being a 1 seed in the NCAAT is vital though, as losing to Duke would allow Duke the #1 in Philly --> DC --> Atlanta. We could have that lineup (or Lexington --> DC --> Atlanta) where as losing this Saturday could drop us to a 2, requiring us to go to either the Midwest (and beat Indiana in Indianapolis) or go to the West (travel to potentially San Jose or Salt Lake City, then Los Angeles) or the South (play Kansas in Arlington, TX where they will pack the building).

A #1 vs a #2 is far more vital than people are giving credence to.

Why is there a battle between sports at the same school? Both series are important, but don't kid yourself, this is crunch-time in Basketball. Getting a 1-seed by beating Duke is much more important right now than sweeping UF. If we sweep UF, we go into the teens in the baseball rankings with about 50 games still to play. That is not as big as beating Duke, winning the ACC outright in the regular season, and barring a disaster against Clemson and Ga. Tech, gets us a 1 seed in the NCAA tournament. There is no comparison. It is always good to beat the gators in anything, but it doesn't compare to the outcome of the Duke game.

We lost to freaking Wake Forest and are still in position to get a #1 seed. Winning or losing at Duke changes nothing. This is like hockey season. It all starts over in the post-season, making the regular season meaningless.

basketball team could be pretty good next year if Shane Larkin stays.

We will have Larkin, Brown, Burnette, Elder, Adams, Reed in the back court/on the wing

and Swoope, Akpejiori, Jekiri down low. I think Jekiri could blow up next year I like his game.

We will have to play small if we get into foul trouble but we could still be good with the kids we have coming back

Ignore the team name and look at road records of ACC play. We're 7-1. Nobody else is even close to that. Road basketball wins in the ACC >>>>>>> road baseball wins. It's just a different beast. And it isn't like hockey season, it's one and done. It's more pressure filled than baseball's best of 3 super regional.

Yeah... I like to dream big too buddy. But even that dream is crazy to think we could be "pretty good" next year. I assume you mean .500+ in ACC play, which I think will be a very, very tough battle for us next season.

The basketball season is at neutral sites. Whether we are #2 playing #1 or #1 playing #2, it makes no difference. It's in some random arena anyway. In baseball the teams that host win something like 80% of the time.

Point in case: losing that game in November to FAU means nothing right now.

The loss to FGCU means a lot right now. Having won that game would put us at a 1 seed very easily, even if we lose to Duke. Further, being a 1 v 2 makes a HUGE difference. Being a 1 for us means being in DC, a much more friendly second weekend location than Los Angeles, potentially facing Indiana at Indianapolis or Kansas at Arlington, TX. We won't get a 2 seed and play in DC as Duke will have that spot in front of us. You just don't get it, and that's ok, it just means you have more potential to learn.

It doesn't matter where we play. Our 400 traveling fans are going to be outnumbered in any location. Baseball has won the titles, baseball doesn't suffer through 25% capacity crowds, and baseball has won the titles. This series is huge. Duke game, yawn. Nothing will be different.

Another proof in point: if we lose to Duke and then beat them in the AC tournament, we pass them again anyways.

My guess is you're trolling at this point. I can't figure how any lucid person could write the paragraph they wrote which completely contradicts the point they're trying to prove.

-It's much better for the team to play on the east coast than the west for obvious reasons
-Baseball has it's fanbase and always will, basketball is growing
-OOC series mean little to Miami in baseball, aside from bragging rights
-There are no such thing as "huge" baseball series in March

Other than that you're spot on.

While a series win at UF might signify that the baseball team doesn't suck this year, a win at Duke would be a big story nationwide and would offer even more exposure from a recruiting standpoint.

This is a troll, stop acknowledging him. Yes we know Canes v. Devry is a big game this weekend.

Do you realize what sweeping Duke on National Television does for all sports? It's gets our program in the news.

If we sweep UF (or vice versa) let me know if it makes any headlines in the national media.

It won't

The National Media doesn't care about college baseball until Omaha.

ESPN has been hyping the basketball game all week.

The series against UF this weekend is big but, not as big as the basketball game. I'm looking forward to all four games.
