Replacing a 5-star player is never easy, but that is the task at hand for Miramar 2015 CB Jeffrey Hill (5’9, 170), as he will be one of the corners asked to fill the hole that Tracy Howard left after graduating.
“Tracy taught me leadership and how to break down a receiver’s routes. He taught us how to read formations too.”
While the Patriots are losing some veteran leadership from last year’s squad, Hill is confident they will have a successful season.
“We have great players like Sean Avant and Jermaine Grace returning. We lost a lot of talent, but we gained a lot too. We’re just young.”
Miramar Offensive Coordinator Tyrell Conyers has gone on record by saying that the combination of Hill and fellow sophomore CB Tyrek Cole can be one of the best in the state.
“We just gotta show what we got this year. We’re young and inexperienced, but can definitely do it,” said Hill
Miramar will face a loaded schedule this season.
“I’m definitely looking forward to the games against Manatee and Northeast with Stacy Coley. I’m matched up with Coley. He has the personality that he knows he’s good, and they’re gonna isolate him a lot.”
This will be Hill’s first season on varsity, but he realizes it was a heartbreaking loss against Tampa Plant in the state final.
“I know how it felt to lose even though I was on J.V. We just have to go out with the seniors who were out there last year and play hard.”
On the field, Hill notes that his best attribute is his man-to-man coverage skills. Miami, LSU, and Virginia Tech are three schools that he is looking at early on.
