What's the scoop on Finley? I don't recall hearing much about him during practice reports last season.

man apparently I suck at this lol. FWIW I based my initial depth chart off of the alleged depth chart for the bowl game I found here: 2017 Miami Hurricanes Football Depth Chart | Ourlads.com

    - As this is a "1st day of Spring Ball" depth chart I only included current roster folks plus the 11 EEs, so no Bandy, no Dean (if he comes), etc.
    - I agree that Jaquan probably starts over at safety - my bad
    - @LuCane I thought Jenkins was behind Norton too but I went off the chart I found online which had him backing up Mac.
    - I agree that McDermott should start at tackle allowing Darling to move to guard - that's their best respective positions, IMO
    - COMPLETELY forgot about Sherriffs - he'll most likely be in the 2-deep to begin spring
    - Forgot about the Knighton transfer as well - will fix.

    Anything else?

I don't recall him making a ton of plays on specials but he was credited with some tackles.

Ghost - If (and that's maybe why you left him off the 2 deep), but if J. Dean commits to UM, would he in your opinion step in and start?
    Absolutely.

May get negged, but I like our starting WRs. After that group tho...

So in putting together the Spring roster, some questions stuck out to me:

    - Who is going to play nickel if Jaquan moves to safety full-time?
    - Will the incumbent QBs (Rosier, Allison, Sherriffs) stave off Weldon and eventually Perry?
    - What's Gus Edwards' status?
    - Will Cager be ready for Spring and if not, who's playing WR? Will it be the Malik Meriweather show again?
    - How have the younger OL troops developed? We've already run off some dead weight - who's left and who's left behind?
    - How ready is Navaughn Donaldson?
    - Do we have a LT?
    - Are Owens and Gordinier going to be healthy for Spring?
    - Where does Deejay Dallas start his career? I think he's a boundary CB by nature for sure, but with our current CB depth...? Will he line up both ways?
    - How quickly can Amari Carter pick up the defense?

Guys I'm excited to see in Spring:

    - All of the QBs
    - Travis Homer
    - The young TEs Haskins and Irvin
    - The OL, particularly the backups, to see how far we have to go yet
    - Deejay Dallas
    - Amari Carter

You have 2017 kids in your "beginning" depth chart, and I don't really know when the first depth chart is produced. But I'm going to guess it's after 3-4 weeks of practices. By they, my two adjustments to your list:

    * Mahoney gets passed up by one (all) of the 2017 kids before Spring game. There are enough options at guard that Mahoney will never see meaningful snaps during the season, and hopefully the freshmen can redshirt.

    * A Carter is an EE so will be on campus today or within the next couple days. I think both Cedrick Wright and he move ahead of Knowles.

Off topic, but once Dean and Bandy come in, Redwine is going to struggle to find a starting position, which is good news for Miami.

Agree with all of this. It was more of an "academic" pre-spring depth chart, i.e. who I think they might roll out Day 1 of Spring Practice.

For me, the biggest question marks on the team going into the fall are:

    1) QB
    2) OL, particularly LT
    3) CB
    4) Safety
    5) WR besides Richards

I'd be surprised if either Gray or Cager were full participants this spring. Definitely no way they are full go in any contact scrimmages. Cager tore his in July I believe and gray in august, which means they're only 5-6 months post knee surgery. I don't see them being involved in the depth chart much until august.

Can we please hold off on these until after NSD at least? This is like talking about the family you're gonna raise when you don't have a gf yet

Could be a number of guys. Personally, I think Bandy is a perfect fit at nickel and a phenomenal talent. He's not enrolling early, though, and it's dangerous to count on true freshmen.

Cedrick Wright could fit the mold for the nickel position. I also wouldn't be surprised (assuming we get Dean and he proves a capable starter) that our nickel package consists of 3 CBs with Dean, Young and Redwine, with Young in the nickel slot.

I see Wright as more of a thumper safety a la Amari Carter - not sure he has the hips to keep up with slot receivers 1-on-1. Bandy (long-term) I think is a great fit there. It's also why I initially had Dallas at nickel even though his future is at boundary...

One is going to emerge. You've got 4 decent tackles in Odogwu, St Louis, McDermott and now Brown. I know some think McDermott is hot trash but my bet is on him. It's clear he played injured or was still recovering from last year's injury. He'll take a big step with the added recovery time.

p.s. if they can get Donaldson on a proper diet with a good S&C program, it's not out of the question that he can lose 25 pounds, shift fat to muscle and be ready to go in 8 months. Winston, Henderson and Flowers all started as TFs. Donaldson seems a bit further off, but these coaches have a good track record developing freshmen EEs.
