OT: Freaky ****. United flight loses engine. A miracle that plane didn’t go down.

Routine was probably the wrong word. I think manageable would’ve been a better word

Those NTSB reports take several months to come out, don’t they? It’s going to be interesting to see what was the ultimate cause of this. And I realize many people, especially those with piloting/flying/industry experience almost see this as routine, but for the rest of us that are part of the...

Thanks that makes sense. Are those the three major engine manufacturers, Pratt/Whitney, Rolls, and GE?

There was somebody else I think that said that they would have immediately shut the engine off. Do you think that was the case? Or did what you say preclude that happening?

I’m done with you. You have some sort of obsession with me and it’s pretty disturbing. Stop stalking me and derailing threads.

Cant beat those perks. Northwest hasn’t been around for a while. I mean it seems like 20 years ago or so. Was he able to retire out of NorthWest or did he have to go work for another airline? Also the first time I want to HI it was on points, and the same exact thing happened to me when I was...

Both. He could’ve made it back to an airport with one. I’m not any expert on aviation but I know that they can fly on one engine

I hate that LAX (or other Cali city) layover when going to Hawaii. I just don’t think there any nonstops from anywhere east of Dallas or the general Texas area, to Hawaii. It’s possible Chicago has nonstops, but not sure though

Twink, your only reason to participate in this thread was to follow me around and try to throw a little shade like the over-emotional little simpleton that you are. I responded to your post in a measured way, and of couse, like an over-estrogenated female, you respond emotionally numerous...

Engines have fallen off jetliners before. It’s not an unreasonable question for someone that is not a pilot. Just Google it. With that history, and seeing that engine vibrating and shaking while hanging under a wing, also while being battered by the forces of 300+ mph winds without a...

I see what you’re saying, that makes sense that the fans would still spin since air is being forced through them at hundreds of miles per hour. Can you just explain to me why the back of the engine is still on fire? I mean if you can even tell from that video why it would be. Is somehow fuel...

Yeah I make no claims whether it was or if it wasn’t shut down, I was just referring to that video, it was still spinning, still running. Maybe that video was right after it happened before they shut it down, I just don’t know. Again speaking as a lay person, I have no real frame of reference...

Right the engine is still functioning but the entire cover is gone whatever it’s called nacelle, cowling, whatever. Bear in mind, I’m speaking as a non-pilot and a layman, basically only just a consumer of airline services, that’s the extent of my flight knowledge, other than obviously...

That engine was still running though. It was still spinning and providing thrust. I’m wondering why they didn’t shut it down and just fly in on the other engine. I’m not an aeronautical or aircraft engineer, and I’m not a pilot, just a customer that flies a lot, but that thing is shaking and...

Statistically speaking flying is still way safer than driving

Also engines have come off wings before. It has happened

That’s a 777 so it’s not like an old plane. Maybe a maintenance issue? There was a plane that went down a few years ago, because the maintenance people didn’t put some screws in the tail, left the whole line out, a piece flew off in flight, the plane became uncontrollable, went straight into...
