Dollar for dollar, WT101 is pretty tough to beat for old fashioneds.

I have half a bottle in my bar. It's ok, but like you it's probably not something I'd buy again. It's got a bit of a smoky thing going at the finish if you like that. Proof is a little low for me to try in an old fashioned, but between the taste and smoky characteristics I could see that working.

I like them w/ Buffalo Trace as well, but you're right that it's not as easy to get a hold of as it used to be. Another bourbon in the range of Early Times that's relatively easy to find and good for Old Fashioneds is Wild Turkey 101. A little spicier than the Early Times, though.

Also a sneaky good choice for old fashioneds (if you are of school that the bourbon should be at least 100 proof and not a high rye mashbill).

Not sure if it's been mentioned here, but if you like a smoked old fashioned, the one they make at Eddie V's is pretty great. Basil Hayden and chocolate bitters, with a pretty neat tableside presentation.

I was in Tennessee last week and managed to get my hands on a ECBP (c922) and a bottle of McKenna's. Paid $89.99 for each bottle, which still feels like too much for the McKenna's but I was just excited to see the bottle on the shelf.

Nice. The hand-selected stuff can be a bit hit or miss, but Binny's is one of the names I've heard a few times as being solid. Definitely would be cool to have a spot like that in walking distance.

Do you order from Binny's often? I've wondered about them before. Seem to have a good rep and online reviews of their handpicked stuff is generally positive.
