Miami's NFL talent and getting to the next level

We also don’t have an identity, especially on offense, because we’ve literally had 4 different offensive coordinators since 2015. At least with Lashlee having success last year we have a proven coach and system that’s appealing to offensive players, specifically quarterbacks.

Absolutely, a game changer at quarterback can overcome a talent gap. We saw what happened when Deshaun Watson’s Clemson team beat a vastly superior Alabama team for the title. You swap quarterbacks and the game is a blowout.

Miami's NFL talent and getting to the next level

Virginia Tech never competed nationally like Clemson does now with the exception of the Mike Vick years. They took off in the 90’s when Miami went on probation and did a good job at taking over a joke Big East conference. They rarely played big OOC games and managed to win at a good rate against...

It’s also a good example of @Ethnicsands point that draft picks don’t always equate to overall team talent. If you have one NFL lineman playing with four other bums on the o-line, your line won’t be good. If there’s a big gap between your best handful of players and the rest of your roster...

I’m surprised there’s only one “Manny’s” and it’s in Margate

I’d say the biggest difference between Alabama and Georgia has been Saban’s willingness to adjust what he does to adapt to the modern game. If Alabama was still using the outdated offense that Georgia still uses, they’d be in a similar predicament. Good enough to out talent almost everyone but...

The comparison is still off though. It’s my fault because I just gave the example of UM’s last five recruiting classes, totally ignoring the fact that most of those kids aren’t even draft eligible. ****, Miami’s highest rated class over the last 5 years has only had one kid enter the draft...

Miami's NFL talent and getting to the next level

Miami’s last 5 recruiting classes as ranked by 247 are : 11th, 16th, 27th, 8th, 12th. Which averages just under 15th overall. So I guess you’d probably want to compare with teams in the 12-18 range to get a reasonable number. I always laugh when people try to compare what we do in recruiting to...

Miami's NFL talent and getting to the next level

I honestly believe it’s the other way around. Our day three guys aren’t reaches and often have good NFL careers. I’m curious to see which school has the most UFAs that actually end up making a team. We’ve got to be near the top.

Miami's NFL talent and getting to the next level

I think program prestige often plays a role in draft selections. Teams are far more likely to reach for an Alabama or Ohio State player because of their reputation. A player’s team’s performance may have nothing to do with his individual talent but NFL GMs still prefer guys from winning programs...
