Miami's NFL talent and getting to the next level

Saban knows exactly the types of recruits he's seeking from a physical standpoint. Alabama does not pursue players who fail to fit a specific size/speed metric even though they may prove quality players for other programs. "They have a template, and it matches what most NFL teams are looking...

Miami's NFL talent and getting to the next level

Simmons is a LB. Those rest of those guys have just been average so far. Again, they've been better than us. But they haven't produced the same caliber of DBs as the top programs.

Correct. But I don't think we've had Day 1 guys who have slipped. It's more Day 3 guys that should've gone Day 2. The Day 1 guys are lost battles- Jeudy, Ridley, Surtain, Henderson, etc.

No. The top programs get the best NFL results by design. They purposefully recruit players who have the physical tools to make the NFL. That's what Butch did when he was here. There's a reason every recruiting service ranks players based on NFL criteria. Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia and LSU...

Miami's NFL talent and getting to the next level

I see a gap after those schools. Clemson's DBs are better than us, but nothing great and at the same volume. Who is the best DB they've produced? Their dynasty was built on difference-making QBs, DLs and WRs.

Miami's NFL talent and getting to the next level

The teams that produce the most Day 3 picks, besides Miami, are the best programs in the country. The teams that produce the most the total draft picks, besides Miami, are the best programs in the country. The teams that produce the most active NFL players, besides Miami, are the best programs...

Miami's NFL talent and getting to the next level

That graphic contradicts your point. The five teams after Miami are Georgia, Florida, Oklahoma, Alabama and Clemson. In terms of total NFL draft picks, the teams ahead of Miami are Alabama, Ohio State, LSU, Michigan, Florida and Georgia. The teams right behind Miami are Clemson, Notre Dame and...

Miami's NFL talent and getting to the next level

WR for sure. That's been the trifecta for them: QB-DL-WR. Their DBs have been OK but nothing special. We actually have as many DBs in the NFL than they do. Theirs are better than ours but not as good as the top teams.

Miami's NFL talent and getting to the next level

The best programs produce the most NFL players. The best programs produce the most Day 1-2 picks. The best programs produce the most Day 3 picks. It is a very accurate indicator of program health. Miami sits alongside the best programs in total NFL players and Day 3 picks. We are way behind in...

My point exactly. What was different in the Vick years?

Miami's NFL talent and getting to the next level

If you take away the elite QB and DL talents, Clemson is Virginia Tech during the Beamer years. Well-coached, tough, ultimately a non-factor. First and foremost, Clemson is a dynasty because they because they have elite players at the two most important positions.

Miami's NFL talent and getting to the next level

Signing impact guys is much, much more important than avoiding washouts. Look at Butch's classes. Half of those guys never even hit the field, usually because of grades. We remember those classes fondly because of the studs. I haven't seen a detailed study on attrition rates, but everything...

What's Clemson without their first round QBs and DL?

This part is non-negotiable. We need to play to our current talent first. Last year was a step in the right direction as far as beating mediocre ACC teams consistently.

Miami's NFL talent and getting to the next level

In the past five years, Miami is 7th overall in total draft picks. This, in a vacuum, is the sign of a healthy program. In the past ten years, Miami has produced more Day 3 picks (36) than anyone in the country by a wide margin. The five teams behind Miami are Georgia, Florida, Oklahoma...
