WR Long discusses UM offer

Stefan Adams
WR coach Taylor Stubblefield has been scouring the state and the nation to find the perfect fits to close out WR recruiting in the class of 2020 and Chamberlain (FL) 3-star WR Kaleb Long was a part of Miami’s massive effort to offer more receivers about a month back.

“I had a call with my coach and that’s when he broke me the news,” Long said of his Miami offer. “I was definitely excited.”

Although he won’t be able to make it for Paradise Camp this weekend, Long is still hoping to set up a visit to campus sometime soon.

“My interest is high,” Long said of UM. “I plan on visiting this summer or early fall.”

While the Canes’ offense struggled in 2018, they cleaned house on the attacking side of the ball to get things moving in the right direction again. Long is optimistic that the new coaches Miami has brought on will be a net positive for UM going into the future.

“I know they have good coaching and I like the offense that coach (Dan) Enos is going to run there,” Long said.

Schools such as FSU, GT, UF, Iowa State, and UCF are in constant contact with the 6-5 180 pound prospect.

“I’m looking for a school with a good atmosphere, good family, and good coaching,” Long said.

As a junior at Chamberlain, Long recorded 34 catches for 455 yards and 8 TD’s in 9 games during 2018. Long is spending his offseason working to improve upon those numbers for his final season of high school ball.

“I’m trying to gain more weight and work on my route running.”

I think we need to take 1 big body guy. This guy, Poitier, Turner, someone that’s big and plays big. Surprised we didn’t get in on Johnny Wilson who is the most freakish receiver I have seen in recent years at 6’6 220 running a 4.59 40 with a 4.31 shuttle and a 36 inch vert.

I like the SFL kid 2020 WR Kentron Poitier because he plays and practices against tougher competition. But I would not turn away Long, that 8 minute highlight video is pretty **** good.

Go Canes

Ya I'm a big fan of Poitier and I like Long just as much...Just always gotta lean Dade, esp with what Palmetto has on deck next year or 2.

Kid ran the anchor on his 4x400 meter relay team that made it to the district finals back in 2018 the only year he ran track.

Long looks the part and I agree; we need a big bodied WR in the 2020 recruiting class to compliment the other WR’s we have commitments from already (of which hopefully most stick). Seems to have really good feet and catches very well. Anybody know when he plans on dropping either his Top X number of schools listing or his thought process on when he will actually commit timeframe wise?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I recently spoke to someone very, very, close to Tron’s(Poitier) recruitment & unfortunately at this time(now, obviously things can change & most likely will), he’s listening to UM, but “they’re not in it” for him at this time...I’m hoping and praying that the situation improves to our(The Good Guys’) liking, but as of now, that’s where things stand...

Do you now if he wasn't invited to Paradise? If he was, I'm surprised it's so important for him to be at Syracuse this week?

Great question that I didn’t think about to ask! Next time I speak to the person I know close to his recruitment, I will ask.
