The Work 1-16

I will keep this succinct and to the point with additional info from last night’s Miami-Duke basketball game, which masked as a recruiting event for the football staff.

**Mark Richt spent a majority of the second half last night sitting next to Patrick Surtain, Jr. and Nesta Silvera. I’m willing to go as far as I believe UM has a better shot with Surtain than Tyson Campbell at this point. It went very well with Surtain and progress continues to be made there. His recruitment essentially started in earnest this month since he was so focused on his senior season. Also, despite rumors that Campbell was on campus over the last 48, that was not true. Until he actually sets up an official visit to Coral Gables, I will consider him a long shot, and even then it will be tough.

**Miami is setting themselves up very nicely with 2019 OL Dontae Lucas — who was one of the prospects in the building last night. Lucas has spent more time on campus than just about any other 2019 recruit and is building a very strong relationship with Stacy Searels and Coach Richt. There’s a great chance Lucas continues Miami’s trend of landing the top local lineman in each of the last two recruiting cycles (Donaldson and Scaife). It will be interesting to see where Lucas plays his final season of HS ball, as Sed Irvin is no longer at Miami High.

**2019 UF commit Cameron Williams (Chaminade-Madonna DE) was getting a ton of attention from the Miami coaching staff last night and then Manny Diaz and Craig Kuligowski stopped by the school to see him today. Keep a close eye on him over the next few months as the Canes continue to prioritize and flip him from the Gators.

**I mentioned in yesterday’s work that there was a possible commitment on the horizon from the group of visitors — that came in the form of 2020 DE Samuel Anele, who committed to Mark Richt just before halftime of the game yesterday. A source who saw it go down said, “I’ve never seen a kid as happy as he was when he committed.” It’s going to be fun watching Anaele develop with two years left at the high school level. I don’t think a reclassification to 2019 is completely out of the picture either.

**I had this update on 2019 LB Sam Brooks earlier today:

I’ll add that I believe Brooks will be a Canes commit before spring is over with. He is the type of guy who has “ambassador” qualities as one of the most respected guys in his class. His family is all Miami too.

**** it I'll take a Surtain for Campbell swap lol

Pathetic display of the staffs ability to lock up the highest tier local talent. Rumph should voluntarily leave his position if we don't land Campbell, because I doubt Richt is cut throat enough about success to terminate him.

Great news on Surtain.

I know it's not a popular statement around here right now, but I would take him over Campbell. He's ready from day one as he's the more well rounded and college ready of the two. I love that he has his father to help him on his path as he's been there and done that.

Make no mistake about it, I would happily take either. So whichever, I'm thrilled.

Pete, if Tyson takes an OV to Miami, I believe Nesta will join him and potentially Surtain on a visit to sway them to UM.

So it’s realistic to get Surtain but not Campbell?

Am I in bizarro world?

Pastor Richt ain’t going down without a fight to these **** a$$ SEC schools. I love it.

Ill switch Campbell for Surtain in a heartbeat

Plus Jobe played himself because He will be at Alabama by themselves.

The Donk is beating Saban, Noles, and Gators all out of South Florida.
