**Recruiting Update 2-17**

**Although most of the attention has been put on Sony Michel and Dalvin Cook at the running back position for this upcoming class, FSU commit Joseph Yearby is a name to keep an eye on. Offensive Coordinator James Coley has a close relationship with Yearby back to his days at Florida State, where Yearby has been committed to since his sophomore year. Miami will continue to recruit Cook and Michel, but don't rule out Yearby as a possibility. I've heard that Coley has a close relationship with an individual close to Yearby's recruitment and Coley has known this man for a number of years so that will help Miami's chances.

**One of the most talented players in South Florida, the early talk on South Dade WR Tyre Brady is that he will have to go Prep/JUCO even with a good year in the classroom senior year. Some believe he is just as talented as Ermon Lane from Homestead, but Brady has no film because he hasn't been able to stay on the field for an extended period of time. I'm a huge fan of his ability and hope he can pull it together.

**After receiving a Miami offer a couple weeks ago, I'm told that 2015 ATH JaQuan Johnson is already leaning towards Miami. It might seem ridiculous, but getting Johnson aboard this early would be just what Miami needs. Johnson is a very well-respected kid down here and has a lot of pull with a large number of top prospects over the next two years. He is a natural-born leader who commands respect amongst his peers. Johnson also holds offers from Florida and Clemson.

**Booker T. Washington CB Nigel Patten was offered by Miami this week. Something interesting that came from the offer is that Patten told CanesInSight's Tito Benach that Miami coaches said they want 3 defensive backs in this class. Some early targets include Michael Johnson, Chris Lammons, Patten, and Kiy Hester (NJ). I know a lot of people are curious about the status of Quincy Wilson and his offer, but at this point I would be surprised if Miami offered. The coaches have seen enough of him by now to make a judgement on whether or not they believe he is Miami caliber and he has come away without an offer even after camping. From seeing him live multiple times, I think Miami is making a mistake by not offering. He has elite size and is extremely physical.

**Miami's coaching staff made a very smart move by jumping on the Chris Lammons bandwagon early. I had posted his highlights last month when he visited for the first Junior Day and I really like him at corner. The 'Canes offered last Monday followed by UF, FSU, and Ohio State later in the week. He could also play some slot, but his hands can be inconsistent at times. Miami is the early favorite and I wouldn't be surprised to see him be the next commitment.

good stuff, would love to see a pull of Wilson and Lammons and another top db knowing we are in he lead for Johnson in 2015 even tho that is a long time away. Mad to hear Wilson most likely won't be in the class tho, hopefully a camp this summer changes the staffs mind. I hope Brady doesn't become AJL 2.0 but I believe he is easily #2 in south florida. As far as Sony goes, in 8th grade playing basketball he told me he would play for the U lets hope that sticks LOL. I do think Sony follows his heart in the end, his heart is actually in Miami unlike that undersized LB from that highschool that has coaches stirring players away from UM

Something just doesn't smell right with the Quincy Wilson stuff. It can't be as simple as the coach don't like his game...can it? Just get the feeling there is more to the story as a whole.

Kiy Hester said Coach Williams told him they are taking a lot of DBs in his class. I hope we offer Quincy.

Too bad for Wilson. Seems like he would commit on the spot.

Or maybe it is.

Another Skai Moore situation. Maybe our staff has guys rated higher on their board they feel more confident in.

yes, it is that simple from what I've heard

Wonder how long until University school starts to feel slighted lol

Sorta kidding, but you never know with these dudes down here.

I think they just have people higher on their board than Wilson. Pete why do you think Lammons will be the next to commit to Miami and how soon?

speaking of university school, I see Jordan Scarlett made the following Tweets somewhat concerning us

" University of Miami >>>>"
" If ray Lewis ever talked to me before the game I will go HAMM!"
"Miami hurricanes has all the talent in Florida and let them get away"

Man, the DB class in South Fla is sick this year. I hope the coaches reconsider only wanting 3 DB's.

In addition to Patten, Lammons, Johnson and Hester (NJ), there are also guys like Battle, Dudley-Gordon, Trumaine Washington, Jojo Robinson (Athlete) and Kendall Sawyer from Lehigh Acres.

Be interesting how things play out over the year.

DB class is sick basically every year down here. Take a few this year, take a few next year (hopefully johnson, cole, mcfadden)

I hope we don't have the same outcome, with our top target leaving us holding the bag on signing day. I would love to have Moore in the 2013 class. Hope we don't feel the same a year from now with Wilson.

We haven't offer Richard Yeargin III either another highly rated kid from U school.

Yet apparently we're recruiting Scarlett pretty hard. Lets not act like we just irrationally don't like this school.
