New QB offeree King speaks on UM, Enos

The Miami Hurricanes’ search for a QB in the 2020 class has now led them to Texas. Yesterday, UM offensive coordinator Dan Enos extended an offer to Longview (TX) 4-star Haynes King, who the Canes have been eyeing for a few weeks now.

“I was in contact with (Quality Control Analyst) Jesse Stone at first and then within a week or two is when I called coach Enos and found out about the offer,” King said.

While King admits he was not expecting Miami to pull the trigger so soon, he feels the tradition that comes along with being a part of the Hurricanes’ legacy is appealing.

“It was surprising, it came pretty fast,” King said of the UM offer. “Getting the offer is pretty amazing just knowing the people that played in the past and the culture they made there.”

After a junior season where the Texas gunslinger opened plenty of eyes by putting up video game numbers and leading Longview to the 6A state championship, King has begun to receive recruiting attention from programs all over the country. It seemed King has caught the eye of Enos as well, who told the QB that he likes how King fits in his system.

“He liked the fact that I get under center and in the gun at my high school and have the ability to also run,” King said.

In fact, King feels the offensive system the Canes will running under Enos is something that attracts him to Miami. With the type of offensive success that comes with 3,879 yards, 42 TD's, and a 69% completion percentage, King is looking for a style that can help him keep that momentum going.

“With Miami, I like their winning tradition and culture,” King said. “Also, coach Enos’ offensive style that he is bringing to the table.”

With a host of new offers from the likes of TCU, LSU, Baylor, and Tennessee among others, King is taking his time with the recruiting process and maintains he is pretty open right now. Because staying close to home is not a big factor for him, the 6’3” 185 pound prospect does not rule out taking a visit to Coral Gables in the future.

“I would say I have some interest in visiting (Miami) considering my options are still wide open and location really doesn’t matter for me,” King said.

Of the schools that have offered King so far, he notes Baylor, Arkansas, Auburn, and TCU as the ones coming after him the hardest right now. King says he has no top group and will listen to pitches from any and all suitors. King also recently visited TCU for their Junior Day, and has planned visits to Arkansas on March 9th and Tennessee on March 10th. He anticipates coming to a decision before his senior season.

I like that he can take snaps under center too. I think it will help our run game some. Lot of old Miami staple plays need QB under center. Seems like all QBs only play in shotgun now. Being different was part of our old advantage.

QB board is interesting. Kid has high upside for sure. Hopefully we get him on a visit soon.

Nice stats that he put up, especially the 69% completion percentage. Sounds like a leader as well, let’s get him ironed out for a visit soon. Once he gets a chance to see Coral Gables and sees the team in practice, hopefully that will entice him to want to come join the team and commit.

Maybe 5 national championships might help clear that up.
Or Maybe you should stop responding to threads made in March..then just maybe you’d understand the tone of the thread was not serious
