The long-awaited debut of Demetrius Jackson in a Booker T. Washington football uniform took place a couple Saturdays ago, and he did not disappoint. Jackson was extremely active and helped his team shut-out nationally ranked Norcross 55-0.
“It was exciting and especially because it was on ESPN. We had to take care of business and it felt great doing it in front of the entire nation,” said Jackson.
The Tornadoes were confident heading into the game, but did they really think they could shut Norcross out?
“Honestly, yes. We go against the best offense in the country (in practice) with Treon Harris at quarterback and Mark (Walton) at running back with Krondis Larry. If we can give Treon trouble, we can give anyone trouble. We want the state record of 11 shutouts in a season.”
The pass-rushing tandem of Jackson and fellow Miami commit Chad Thomas was on display in the opener.
“We complement each other very well because he’s very strong and fast and I’m getting my strength up which is scary because I’m fast too. It’s fun and amazing how much we grow each week.”
Many are calling this week’s showdown against Central a potential national championship game. Jackson talked about what his team needs to do to win.
“The game is already won. We just need to go out there and execute. We shut down the run and they’ll have to go to the pass where the secondary will take care of business. It’s gotta be 48 minutes of pain and we can’t take our foot off the gas.”
Booker T.’s pundits are saying Central’s lines are too big for the Tornadoes to handle.
“They said the same thing about Norcross. They had the number one D-End in Georgia. 55-zip. The haters are gonna be on our back all year as long as we’re number one. They’ll be looking for us to fail, but we’ll keep believing in our coaches, ourselves, and God.”
Ever since committing to Miami a few months back, Jackson has been building a relationship with his main recruiter Micheal Barrow.
“He’s been calling me everyday and we’ve been talking to each other. He sends me little quotes on Facebook because he knows I’m a spiritual dude and he’s a spiritual dude too so that’s something that connects us. He tries to encourage me. We just stay connected.”
There have been reports saying that Jackson will look around at other schools after the season, but that doesn’t seem like something he is focused on.
“It’s a strong chance I stay committed. It’s just a great school that produces great players and especially to get your degree. My main focus is getting my degree because sports isn’t guaranteed. I want to go to college, have fun, and if I’m blessed enough to go to the next level then I will do it.”

“We bring that ‘U’ mentality from the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s every time we play and that mentality wears off on the team.”

“UF is known for being a great team, but at the end of the day UM is gonna pull away. It’s gonna be close, but by the end of the quarter UM will run away with it. Duke Johnson and my boy big Chick will have big games.”
