LB recruiting...again

As I've posted throughout this entire cycle, the plan has been to only take one linebacker, which their target all along was Patrick Joyner. That will remain the case, but I got some more clarification as to why.

Miami believes they "over-signed" last year with Waynmon Steed, Bradley Jennings, and DeAndre Wilder -- and not in a bad way. They are high on all three of those guys and see Steed as a potential breakout star now in spring practice. Wilder got more burn the Jennings, but each can play a different role. Steed redshirted, so that spreads the numbers out a bit.

On top of their confidence in the 2017 LB class, they are bullish on the 2019 crop down here at the position.

Jesiah Pierre is committed and they view him as one of the best-kept secrets in the country.

They have Sam Brooks from Northwestern near the top of their board regardless of position, even with the knee injury he suffered this past season

Anthony Solomon and Jahmar Brown are two other prospects that they really want right now too.

So next year's class will be 3-4 most likely. They didn't want to compromise numbers, not to mention how highly they regard Joyner as a guy who can play any linebacker spot.

Pete, does Diamante Howard still factor in plans? Does anyone ever talk about him? Haven't heard his name mentioned at all...he obv needs weight.

I think our depth at Lb this year is perfect, its a problem next year if our guys decide to leave early.

I've been on the Steed train for awhile, super underrated. If he's a couple inches taller he'd been probably been a 4 star, a high 4 star.

Absolutely loved him as a prospect when I first saw his hl's. He's coming for somebody's job.

Mcloud got better as the year progressed. Played very well vs. Pitt and I thought pretty good in the bowl loss.

Therein lies the rub. None of the LBs should be considering leaving early at this point but we know **** well that doesn’t mean they won’t.

Coaches have a plan, which is good. But between hope and certainty, that plan seems to tilt more towards hope than my own personal tastes. I just don't see how taking Bonitto would have changed the above in any way other than improving our overall team strength. Which of the 2019 kids doesn't come because of Bonitto?

And, respectfully, the "numbers" argument has been overplayed for 15-20 years. When have we been too stacked at any position since the RBs group under Butch?

Our lbs should be taking the next step from soph to jr year. The way they played their freshmen year, we all thought one or 2 may be leaving jr year. I might actually be disappointed if at least 1 doesn’t make huge stride this year to have a huge year and leave. It means they didn’t progress much from the 1st year here.

Do they see D Smith or Carter moving to LB?

Why would Smith and/or Carter move to LB? Smith played some CB in spread formations, and Carter is a good physical safety size.

If anyone would be a candidate it is Finley.

Smith and Carter aren't "moving" to LB, but they plan to play them in the box at times for sure.

You want 12 linebackers over a 4-year span?

Ideally you want to be recruiting guys who are good enough to leave in 3. Right now, our lb corps is the weakest group on the team. After Shaq, Pink, and McCloud (not giving up on him), the drop off is steep. We needed to replenish, and there was enough quality this cycle to do that. We basically have a 2 deep going into next season. 3 is the preference.

Yep, why not? Alabaga, OSU, Clemsons of the world do.

They basically recruit 3 yr players. Its part of Saban and Urbans pitch actially.
