2021 Miami Northwestern (FL) 3-star S Kamren Kinchens is one of the top DB’s in South Florida regardless of class and has been treated as such, with high-level programs ranging from LSU to Clemson checking in on him regularly.
“Recruiting is going great, can’t complain,” Kinchens said. “Not really much new right now. It’s the dead period, so there isn’t much happening.”
Since offering him in February, the Hurricanes have treated him like a top priority and Kinchens has reciprocated that interest with multiple campus visits this spring and summer.
“I went to the practice in July. They were looking great, the DB’s look good,” Kinchens said. “I was talking to coach Manny Diaz, coach (Mike) Rumph, and of course the safeties coach, coach (Ephraim) Banda.”
Not every recruit gets attention from the head coach and spending some 1-on-1 time with Diaz certainly made an impression on Kinchens.
“It made me feel like a priority, it made me feel like they want me there,” Kinchens said.
Playing for his hometown school would take on a special significance for the 5-10 175 pound prospect, and Kinchens sees it as both something he can be proud of and a way to stay close to his family.
“First of all, it’s like home,” Kinchens said of Miami. “I can go somewhere that can use my help. They produce DB’s, so it’s not something new to them. I want to play for the city. The coaches already told me it’s better off staying here. My family won’t have to spend money going to every game out of town. It’s perfect. Then they can use that money they saved to go to Miami’s away games. Now, they would be able to go to all the games.”
Clearly his family would prefer him to stay home, but Kinchens has people in his ear at school telling him to come to Miami as well. Four of his Bulls teammates are current UM commits, including Marcus Fleming, Romello Brinson, Kahlil Brantley, and Tim Burns, and Kinchens says all of them push him to join the Canes.
“Yeah all of them, always,” Kinchens said. “They tell me to come, they need my help, that we can win a natty together just like we did at the West. They tell me to make that move and they know I’m coming eventually and I might as well get it out of the way.”
Since the beginning, though, Kinchens’ plan has always been not to rush into a commitment. When might he make a decision?
“I’m going to wait until next year, around this time in the summer,” Kinchens said.
In terms of other schools, Kinchens says he is hearing most from Ohio State, LSU, Clemson, and FSU in addition to UM. He took a trip to both an FSU and LSU camp over the summer and specifically talked about how his visit to the Tigers’ campus went.

“I just want to do way better than I did last year - more picks, more big hits,” Kinchens said. “Everything I did last year I want to triple. Definitely we’re winning states, it’s team first, that’s the main priority.”
