Height "locked in" with UM, having big senior season

With his long frame and quick first step, 2020 Miami DE commit Romello Height has been a key piece of Dublin (GA) High’s 7-0 start this season. The star pass-rusher has recorded 27 solo tackles, 13 TFL, and 8 sacks, proving difficult for opposing offensive linemen to stop in 2019, and has his eye on a Georgia state title.

“They drop me back sometimes on certain plays. Any time we go to nickel, I go to linebacker, but I mostly have my hand in the dirt,” Height said of his role in the defense. “We’re on the road to winning states.”

His big senior season has earned him increased college attention, but Height stresses that his heart is still with the Canes. In fact, Height has already been imagining himself in the orange and green come March, as he will graduate early and participate in spring ball at Miami.

“Everything’s going good, I’m still with them. That’s my team,” Height said of UM. “I’m locked in, that’s how I’m feeling. I’m going to be in that uniform for spring ball.”

Despite feeling comfortable with his Miami commitment, is Height eyeing a visit anywhere else before he signs?

“No sir, not really. Some schools will text me, like Auburn, Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt, Kentucky,” Height said. “I haven’t done any visits, I don’t plan on doing any visits, but my dad may want me to take a visit. It won’t be an official or anything, but just to go see a game or something.”

Height last visited Miami’s campus in July for a fall practice, but is working to return to Coral Gables for a game this season (he already used his official visit over the summer). Height was originally planning on coming this weekend for the Georgia Tech game, but a family issue has prevented that.

Still, the 6-5 215 pound prospect has watched various UM games from home, and Height gave his take on what he’s seen from the Hurricanes defense so far in 2019.

“I think the defense just needs to gel,” Height said. “After last week, I think they’re locked in now, and it’s going to be some trouble for the other teams.”

A strong bond with the Miami coaching staff is part of what led Height to commit to Miami in the first place back in July, and he says he’s still been in constant contact with the coaches since.

“Coach (Todd) Stroud is my coach. He tells me every day that they’re always watching my film,” Height said. “He tells me how ready he is to get me down there and that my film is awesome, coach (Manny) Diaz tells me my film is awesome. I’ve just been balling out this year.”

THINKIN... @ 6-5 215 pound prospect he will continue to grown . We may have a Brian Burns (Hate to say it!) type player on our hands. If that the case? He will feast down here. Looking at our position group " We may have the best Dline group IN THE NATION".

We have a lot of potential baby freaks coming in at DE. (Height, QWilliams and CWilliams) are all big, athletic DEs. But do we have the right DL coach to get them right? Jury still might be out on Stroud.

Other than height and weight that’s were the comparisons with Burns should probably end. I’m high on height but I’m not sure he’s a speed rusher per say. With that being said he’s a very productive pass rusher and very well built. The closest player we have like burns(Ran a 4.56 at the combine) in this class is chantz Williams imo due to his elite athleticism with his size which reminds of Burns a little.
