3-star CB Brownlee breaks down his UM commitment, what the future holds

Miami was able to land a commitment from 3-star cornerback Jarvis Brownlee today while he was on campus with members of his family. Brownlee received his Canes offer last week and originally said he would wait until the season to choose a school. What changed to make him move up his timeline?

“Well, I was going to wait on a decision,” Brownlee said. “But when I got on campus, it just felt right and felt like I had no choice.”

While he knew Miami was the place for him from the beginning, it was really UM’s educational programs that sealed the deal today.

“Just everything: the atmosphere, the campus,” Brownlee said. “What really got me, though, was the academics. I didn’t know all about the great academics UM has there, but hearing from the advisors, it’s the perfect situation for me. With the private tutors, there will be no excuse for me not to do well.”

Brownlee and his family went all around the UM campus today, but the best part about his visit? That was meeting Miami cornerback Trajan Bandy.

“I was down there from about 1-6 today,” Brownlee said of his UM visit. “I toured around campus with the coaches and saw the facilities, but the best part was talking with Trajan Bandy, I’ve been wanting to talk with him for a long time. We didn’t even talk about football really, just the atmosphere and environment of being a student and player at Miami.”

Even though Brownlee is content with his decision right now, he’s still open to listening to pitches from other programs in the future.

“As of right now, I’m 100% committed to Miami, but I’ll give other schools a chance and take some visits,” Brownlee said.

Are there any schools in particular that would make him think twice?

“Well, there’s two. The one big one though, the offer I’ve always wanted, would be Clemson. The other would be FSU.”

Brownlee joins 3-star CB Damarius Good and 4-star S Keontra Smith as the only defensive backs in Miami’s 2019 class. In fact, Brownlee and Smith are friendly from playing on the same 7-on-7 team, South Florida Express.

“I know Keontra from SFE,” Brownlee said. “I love all them boys from the team.”

When talking about what the future holds for his freshman year about Miami, Brownlee is confident he's ready to make an immediate impact.

"I know I'll be playing as a freshman and making plays," Brownlee said.

And his message to the Canes fans out there?

“To the Canes fans, we finna get this championship. I’m going to come in, work hard, and put on for the city.”

I see what you're saying but I'd personally rather get an honest assessment of someone's recruitment than just an orange and green puff piece. I don't ask it of everybody, but for someone with no other major offers, I think it's a more than fair question. And no, both Good and Munoz just answered that nobody else coming in could sway them, so some do, some don't. It is what it is

After reading that quote, we need to recruit other CBs and see who wants to commit and upgrade if given the chance. I would not feel bad at all replacing him if that is his attitude towards his commitment. He is in the Billy Gibson/Randy Russell boat to me after that comment.
