2015 LB Perry Always Wanted to Be a ‘Cane

2015 Royal Palm Beach’s (Fla.) Charles Perry is accustomed to playing both linebacker and running back at the high school level, but for the NFTC he chose linebacker as his main position.

“I’m doing linebacker and I want to play that in college. At linebacker you last longer, at running back you get hit every game and you get sore. The average running back in the league is probably 3 years so I like linebacker.”

Perry made an early commitment last summer to Hurricanes and has been solid throughout the season. Where does the commitment stand as of now?

“It’s a hundred percent right now, but I have to keep my options open because you never know what can happen.”

Schools are still chasing after the 6’0 200 pound linebacker and the list is impressive.

“Auburn, Tennessee, West Virginia, UCF. et cetera, it’s a lot.”

Despite the other schools trying to lure Perry away from Miami, the Hurricane coaching staff remains in constant contact with him.

“I talked to them almost once a week. It’s a good connection between me and the coaching staff and the players. I feel like family every time I go down there, I just have a good time and the barbecue’s. It’s just good.”

The Royal Palm Beach product mostly speaks with almost the entire coaching staff.

“I talk to Jethro (Franklin) and (Michael) Barrow. Those are the two main coaches I talk to, but I skip around and talk to other coaches. They’re funny, they cool and they’re also about business, so that’s what I like.”

It surprised most to see Perry give such an early pledge to the Hurricanes, but he described it as a chance he couldn’t pass up.

‘Since I was growing up I always loved Miami, so getting an option to go there is a dream come true.”

As of now, Perry has no visits planned for any school, but he does intend to participate in an Al Golden Football camp as well as see the ‘Canes play next season.

“I’m going to the camp and I’m going to a lot of games; All the home games I go to.”

the fact that he's choosing linebacker because it last longer is something I find really awesome because you don't see too many kids think about long term projection in today's day and age.

I agree, I also think SBB should think about that too when considering safety or wr because of how much punishment safeties take in the long run but its his choice

this kid is athletic as ****...and a great find by us...a sideline to sideline LB...hes taller than 6'0 also....kid has a frame to get up to 230 rther quick...

he reminds me of a poor mans Figueroa with his frame and sideline to sideline abilitiy

This kid is going to be a beast! wish he was our bell cow, to attract other kids. He sounds solid, but we're going to add Jaquan Johnson soon! []_[]

Love this kid's attitude. Hope he blows up this year.

+1

I'm real big on this guy. He looks like a natural LB, too, not just an athlete out there.

We need both PB linebackers, he and Coney. Kirby-Lane doesn't seem to be loyal to his area. Maybe its a Hallendale thing? Can't see Hammond coming here from Jacksonville, those cats intimidated by So. Florida. Won't go any farther than Gainesville or FSU. With that being said we gotta ink Coney and Perry.

I live in Miramar which is very close to Hallandale and I can say that Kirby-Lane is an exception, Hallandale is not that way locally for the most part
