After landing UM offer yesterday, Flagg breaks down recruitment

2020 North Shore (TX) 3-star LB Corey Flagg’s first conversation with the Miami Hurricanes’ defensive coaching staff was certainly a memorable one. Earlier yesterday, Flagg received a FaceTime call from none other than UM defensive coordinator Blake Baker, who then announced along with the rest of his defensive staff that Flagg had an offer to Miami.

“Man, it was crazy and it was a honor, as well as a blessing,” Flagg said. “Coach Baker, coach (Jon) Patke, and the whole defensive staff FaceTimed me, it was live!”

With a subpar crop of linebackers in Florida this cycle, Baker has gone national and offered a host of out of state LB’s. Flagg, who lists himself at 6’0” 226 pounds, is the latest in that line and he says he’ll be taking a Miami visit shortly to follow up on his interest in the Canes.

“I do plan to visit Miami very soon and I’m very interested in them,” Flagg said.

Flagg says UM likes him as an inside ‘backer and offers a simple explanation for why he’s interested in the Hurricanes.

“I like the way their defense plays.”

As Flagg has been busy landing new offers seemingly every other day, he hasn’t been able to narrow things down to a top group yet, and prefers to keep his options open as he continues to evaluates all of his choices.

“The teams coming after me the hardest are all my offers,” Flagg said. “Boston College, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, and others.”

Along with 5-star RB teammate Zachary Evans, Flagg helped lead North Shore to the Texas 6A state championship as a junior, where the Mustangs took home the title over Duncanville. During Flagg's 3rd year of high school, he recorded 144 tackles, 33 TFL, 4 sacks, and 5 forced fumbles.

“My junior year was great, we just came off a state championship,” Flagg said. “I’m looking forward to my upcoming senior season.”

In terms of coming to a final decision, Flagg says he has no plan at the moment and is simply taking his time enjoying the process. When he finally does make that decision, the school that will land Flagg will offer him both a comfortable environment as well as great academics.

“I’m not sure when I will make my decision, but I’m looking for a great chemical engineering program as well as where I feel like home is.”

Love this kids tape, reads the play like a vet.
144 tackles, 33 TFL, 4 sacks, and 5 forced fumbles, how the **** is he a 3star???
Git is only 5'10, but plays bigger. (Rohan Marley)

I really like his tape. If you look he diagnosis plays very well. He sees the field very well. His awareness is exceptionally good. He plays smart. May not be the fastest player but he definitely is someone you want on your team. I like him.

Does UM have a chemical engineering program? If so, is it well regarded?

UM can't touch the Texas/Oklahoma Oil schools in regards to Chemical engineering.

Go Canes

I have no clue about Oklahoma, but you are correct in a simple search of the US News and World report top chemical engineering undergraduate programs from last year, UT Austin was ranked number 4 in the country.

No Chemical Engineering program. The main programs include Civil, Computer, Electrical, Industrial, and Mechanical. More recent programs include Aerospace, Architectural, Biomedical, and Environmental.

I'm sure he could find some classes within the Biomedical Engineering program, but it's not going to be like what they offer in the fossil fuel states such as Texas.

Well that sucks especially if he’s determined to seek a chemical engineering degree. Has to play a part in his decision, maybe since we offered the bigger Texas/Oklahoma school(s) will now as well? Not the fastest LB I’ve seen, and my eyes are young compared to a lot of the posters here. But, sheds blocks well, seems to be strong, anticipates well, and is a sure tackler.

I like it!!! I was a Computer Engineering student playing D-1 baseball back in the day. Great to see kids with high academic priorities. 👍

I started out in Electrical with Rob Chudzinski. He stayed in Engineering, I transferred out to the Business School.

Must have been the Calculus and Discrete Mathematics classes that got you. They make you take the hard classes before moving on to the fun stuff. I had to repeat both classes. It was like a foriegn language to me. I was not a good student the first couple of years of college. Got myself together and carried a 3.5 GPA the last 2 years. Several years later I got a Master's Degree in Distributed Systems Engineering from NYU.

You don't put those kinds of numbers up without being good at recognizing plays. That is as impressive of a stay sheet as you'll ever see. He's gotta be fun to watch in a complete game.

great looking prospect. Only reason he is a three star is he looks 5'10. Let Texas and A&M go after the star whores.
