Young Talks Senior Year and ‘Canes

Tito Benach
2014 Albany (Ga.) linebacker Juwon Young finished off his senior year and had what most would call an impressive season.

“My senior season was great overall, I had 118 tackles, I had 7 sacks, 2 block field goals, 2 block punts and I had 303 rushing yards. Overall, I had a great season; this was my best season.”

When asked what Young will remember the most about his senior year, he chose a rather unique response.

“The most thing I will remember is Pre-game meal, love pre-game meal.” said Young, “because the pre-game meal is the best meal, better than lunch, it’s the best food. Pre-game meal is just that thing (laughs).”

Young committed to Miami during the summer and was expecting a great year from the Hurricanes. After the ‘Canes finished 9-3, he gave his thoughts on their year.

“As a team we did great, knowing that we lost guys for the season and that we’re just getting everything back. We are back in full force without any restrictions, I believe this year was our break-out year, so next year and the year after that or until the year I graduate we are going to continue to progress each year.”

The 6’3 230 pound linebacker got to meet with head coach Al Golden today for an in-home visit and talked about how it went.

“It went very well, he met my family, he met my grandma, mom, dad and uncle. He made a connection with all of us, everything was smooth. Al Golden is a straight up honest man, saying how schools gonna be, how class is gonna be and the campus. Just telling me all the shenanigans and stuff.”

The Albany product plans on enrolling early at Miami and got the reassurance that he would be able to back in October when he got the required ACT score.

“Man, I was so excited I didn’t know how to act. Knowing that I have the test scores to get in no problem, it’s a huge load off my back. January 8th, I report down there.”

Young is excited for the opportunity to get a head start in Coral Gables and get some early action.

“Just getting a jump, a head start on the game. Being able to get the plays down pact, the defense down pact and get adjusted to the weather and the atmosphere. I know some people say you can get homesick, but where I’m from most people don’t get homesick.”

The coaches have been informing Young on how he can help contribute to the team next year and what’s expected of him.

“The coaches have been telling me they want me to help in the defense since we’re losing a lot of linebackers. They’ve been telling me ‘Juwon, you can make a big impact on the team, depending how you come in and fill in and work’, so stuff like that.”

Can't wait to watch this guy in spring and watch how he flows to the ball.

All he did at the Miami camp was rush the passer, and he was dominant.

Man I really like this kid. I know he hasnt been as highly heralded as some of our other recruits, but the kid seems like a beast, and seems like a really respectful and good young man. LOVE how excited he is to be a Cane and how eager he is to get down here and jump right in. I LOVE these kinds of recruits. He's all about "we and OUR team". Kid has been rock solid all year. These are the kids I really root for to succeed.

Exactly. He's got the right attitude. Love the cloth he's cut from. Now, we need to see if he can combine that attitude with skills on the field at this level.
